This Day in History

The Washington Redskins were in the news lately. On this day in 1876, the Montana/Dakota Lakota were making their own news.
Custer, the Boy Blunder, got what he deserved.
Unfortunately, he had more than 200 men with him.

Agreed. Although the horse, Comanche, survived the battle...the horse's ass who led his men into Dakota territory took those men with him into death. Hero...not so much.

Thanks for your historical updates, Loki. I enjoy the reminders of such events.

Thank you for that reminder, Hprinze.

A good day to recognize the Veterans of Korea...the 'Forgotten War.' I salute PoppaGringo and others on OPP who served so honorably. You are not forgotten, and never will be by those who know of your sacrifices.

Lt. Colonel Hal Moore(7th cavalry in Viet Nam): "I wonder what was going through Custer's mind when he realized that he'd led his men into a slaughter?"

Sergeant Major Basil Plumley: "Sir, Custer was a pussy. You ain't."

 'We Were Soldiers'...one of the best movies in depicting the Viet Nam War both at home, and on the front lines. Tough to watch.

Indeed....my cousin was actually with Lt Col Moore in that battle as a combat advisor and was one of the lucky ones to survive.
He was invited to the premier showing which was held at Ft Benning in Columbus, GA and said it was eerily accurate.

I heard the news of the war while having a "refreshment" at the Harmon AFB, Newfoundland NCO club. It was Sunday afternoon there, probably Monday in Korea.

It was not good news.
