When I was growing up minimum wage jobs were for High School kids---their 1st job. Since most of America's factories have closed and we get everything from a factory in China or other cheap labor countries...The minimum wage job is pretty much all there is left for alot of Americans trying to raise a family. Yes...the minimum wage should be raised. We need to bring our jobs back to America !

Excellent article. The right tells us a higher minimum wage leads to all sorts of bad things; unemployment, inflation, cut hours, etc. In San Francisco, the minimum wage is $10.50 an hour,the unemployment rate is 5.4%, and a Big Maccosts the same in San Francisco as it does in Flagstaff,AZ, where the minimum wage is $7.25.

Only a liberal could think that raising taxes and increasing minimum wage would create jobs and improve the economy. The only economy improved is politicians. Can't understand liberals.

I said nothing about raising taxes. Deal with the facts re: San Francisco. How would you explain it? Every time there is talk about raising the minimum wage, you righties bring out all the false arguments against doing so.

What do you think sent jobs overseas? It's high labor costs. Raising the minimum wage will send more jobs overseas. It's plain to me.

Perhaps if we didn't give corporations tax breaks for outsourcing, they wouldn't be encouraged to do so. Starving our low end workers is not the solution. Australia has a $16 minimum wage, has low unemployment, avoided the recession, has cradle to grave healthcare and guess what? A Big Mac only costs 20-25 cents more than here.

No Faithistheword, it was not high labor costs. It was labor unions driving up wages to a ridiculous amount and greedy wealthy people wanting to be more wealthy...

You cant explain it to them. Liberals dont want good jobs in this country because fewer people would have to depend on the government if they had good jobs. And conservative dont want good jobs in America because anything more than slave wages hurts the profit margin on Wall Street.

No it is not high labor costs. Our jobs went overseas because of free trade and the fact that decent wages lower Wall Street profits.

Labor union membership peaked in the 1940s and has declined ever since. But America still had something of a manufacturing economy as recently as the 1980s.
