As in the case of Michael Brown, all were quick to judgement as to his cause of death. Lies were told. It usually takes 4-6 weeks to sift through all the evidence and interrogations in order to come to the hopefully correct conclusion. All the evidence has not yet been made public. The Baltimore state's prosecutor obviously jumped the gun in indicting the officers involve in Mr. Gray's demise. Murder and manslaughter are rediculous charges!. At most, they may(some of them) be guilty of negligence and misconduct. Is the evidence of previous arrests of drug user detainees who have taken extended rides in the paddy wagon while on the way to pick up other detainees? In the limited video shown on the networks, it does not appear the officers treated Mr. Gray in any harmful fashion.

The 1 percent club. Before I tackle that, we have to come to an understanding. When we talk about the wealth, we have to decide if we are referencing the same thing. That is wealth and not income. Income is how much money you earn in a given year. Wealth, also known as net worth, is the cumulative value of all of your assets minus your debts. What qualifies as an asset? Cash in the bank, investments (stock, bonds, CDs, 401(k)s, IRAs, etc.) real estate, jewelry, art, collectibles and anything of tangible value. Debts would include outstanding mortgage debt, student loan debt and credit card balances. With that established now we can talk about the 1 percent and inequality.

It's important to make a distinction between income and wealth because income inequality and wealth inequality aren't equal. According to research originally done by economists Thomas Piketty and Emmanuel Saez, the top 1 percent of income earners took home 17.67 percent of the total income -- less than a fifth -- of everyone in the U.S. in 2008 [source: Alvaredo et al]. To qualify as the top 1 percent of earners, you need to make a little more than $500,000 in cash income in 2011 [source: Rampell].

Wealth inequality is far greater. According to an analysis of Federal Reserve data by the Economic Policy Institute, the wealthiest 1 percent of Americans control 35.6 percent of the total wealth of the country -- more than a third [source: Allegretto]. Even more incredible is that the richest 10 percent of Americans control 75 percent of the wealth, leaving only 25 percent to the other 90 percent of Americans.

So, the statement that rich people own 80 percent of everything is not correct. Now should you revise that and say the top 11 percent owns, then you would be spot on.

Now then your next statement, is it fair. Well let us look at this. If your great great great great.... grandparent started a business say in the 1800s and although born poor pulled themselves from a slum, say outside of Frankfurt, Ge. And let us say that for political and religious reasons he was not allowed by law to own property. So let us say that he went into accounting and at the age of about 14 was an apprentice and then at say 19 he became a trader in rare coins. Let us say that he was good and when he got his payments, he stuffed 60 percent of his earning away until he could buy liquid funds, like bonds and he did well. Let us say that he had perhaps 5 sons and took them as business partners and when he passed he willed his fortune to those sons, they did well and so they willed their money to their heirs.....and so down the line. Here is the question, why think of him as an evil man? What did he do other than survive?

Most, one or two exceptions like Bill Gates, inherited their wealth. Does that make them horrible people? Or using your term vile? Are you aware of how much taxes are paid by the top 11 percent? Buried inside a Congressional Budget Office report was this nugget: when it comes to individual income taxes, the top 40 percent of wage earners in America pay 106 percent of the taxes. The bottom 40 percent...pay negative 9 percent. And did you know how many universities owe their many programs to that 11 percent? The Smithsonian Institution collects 93 percent of their budget from that 11 percent.

So, is it fair? Hell no. They should be paying their fair share, but not more. That is why we need a flat tax.
