Sen. Marco Rubio told a private gathering of supporters this weekend that he has what it takes to win the White House and will spend the next months preparing for a presidential campaign.

The Florida Republican was in Miami Friday and Saturday to host his political operation’s fourth annual “Team Marco” donor retreat. Rubio stopped short of announcing for president and might yet choose to run for re-election to the Senate. But if some thought former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush’s presidential jockeying might discourage Rubio and steer him toward a second Senate term, that’s hardly what the 43 year-old lawmaker signaled to his guests.

According to Republican operatives in South Beach for the retreat, Rubio discussed his presidential prospects in confident terms and made clear that his political maneuvering from this point forward would reflect an intent, if not a decision, to seek the White House in 2016. Sources requested anonymity in order to be candid.

“He wants to be in a position to run,” a GOP insider who was in attendance confided to the Washington Examiner. “He believes that he has a winning vision for the party and the country, which is based on his life experience and the opportunity this country gave his family.”

How serious is Rubio? At least serious enough to skip Senate votes this week for a fundraising swing through California. Missing Senate votes is a move that could hurt Rubio on the trail in Florida if he decides to seek re-election, but is exactly what is necessary to raise the tens of millions of dollars he needs to mount a credible presidential campaign.

And although Bush’s potential entry into the race and aggressive fundraising operation could eat into Rubio’s expected base of support for a national bid, the senator appears to be holding his own. In Washington, veteran GOP operative Wayne Berman, who has ties to the Bush family political network, is sticking with Rubio. Also with him are major Republican donors Jim Rubrich of Atlanta and George Seay of Dallas.

Rubrich served on state leadership committees for the last three GOP presidential nominees (Mitt Romney in 2012, Sen. John McCain of Arizona in 2008 and President George W. Bush in 2004.) Seay has previously backed former Texas Gov. Rick Perry and, in 2008, Romney, the former Massachusetts governor. Meanwhile, the donors hosting Rubio’s slate of fundraisers this week are some of the biggest names in California Republican money circles.

On Tuesday, co-chairs for the Rubio event in beachside La Jolla, Calif., near San Diego, include — among others — Kelly and Laurie Burt, who have raised money for Romney; Jenny Craig, founder of the well-known weight loss company; Papa Doug Manchester, who regularly hosts GOP fundraisers; and Doug and Nancy Barnhart, who have helped raise money for House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio.

Rubio also is headed to Newport Beach, Calif., for a fundraiser jointly hosted by the Hispanic 100, the Lincoln Club of Orange County and New Majority Orange County. Also on the docket: events in Costa Mesa, Calif., which is also in Orange County, and Beverly Hills, adjacent to Los Angeles.

On Sunday Rubio flew to Palm Springs to join a gathering of wealthy conservative activists and donors organized by billionaire industrialists Charles and David Koch. The event includes a Sunday evening policy forum that features Rubio and two other potential 2016 candidates: Sens. Ted Cruz of Texas and Rand Paul of Kentucky.

I don't think anything can help Hillary. She has the baggage of 4 years of failed foreign policy to carry. The problem is not her ideology it was her lack of engagement. I may disagree with Kerry but it is quite obvious he is engaged and trying to find solutions as Secretary of State. If Warren runs she pushes Hillary to the left. The sleeper candidate for the Dems would be Jim Webb. He would be a tough guy to defeat.

Hillary is old and tired. Her day is past. Obama has poisoned the well for her. America knows that with Hillary all you gonna get is Obama-White. Look for the Republicans to bloody each other pretty seriously in the primaries, but it won't matter. They will give Democrats plenty of sound bites to steal from as they rip one another apart. It still don't matter. Hillary would be the third Obama term and that just ain't happenin.

Hillary might even conclude she can't win and bow out early. Then what will Democrats do? We got a whole bench of qualified players all ready to go. All they can field is Hillary. Who is her back up?

Yeah sure. She lead everyone in 2008 too. If leading early in polls meant something Howard Dean would have won. And dozens of others

Perhaps but their failed platforms are worn out, and the corruption baggage they carry is huge. Hillary has the money but I think she will be a bridesmaid once again.

There are many here who consider themselves on either the Left or Right:
IMO - Most good honest people want the same things for all; Fairness, and equity. We differ on how to make that happen.
What has to happen is for those on the Right and Left to discover how they are both being used by the PTB; the ones with the Money that George Carlin warned us of.
Both sides hate unfairness, and Corporatism.
I doubt good honest Liberals want pure Communism/leftist cronyism (the trick is to not submit to Communists, as happened in Russia. That is where the Big Money is behind.)
I doubt that good honest Conservatives want Corporatism/ Rightist cronyism (the trick was not to submit to fascist NeoCON cronyism. That is where the Big Money is behind.)
IMO - The Constitution was written to prevent that; but it no longer is the rule of the land. The Constitution has been subverted and covertly replaced. Our Republic has been turned into a Corporation, and not enough Americans have figured out Who has manipulated us into this abomination. It now takes over 100 billion to get the nomination for President in either party. The Big Money interests are laughing all the way to THEIR banks.(TV, Radio, Newspaper, Magazine ads. and etc.)
The Solution? Wake up, and then wake up others. Then vote in candidates that will go after The Federal Reserve slave masters. Go back to using Constitutional, United States notes, instead of what was foisted on America in 1913 ( the Fed Res notes with perpetual, unpayable interest tied to them.) It is now $18 Trillion, and going up a Trillion a year. We are being bankrupted, with the interest being paid to scoundrels.

Now for some blunt honesty:

For those that have not followed what the CFR is, and the influence it has on our Federal Government:
Some CFR Facts
The 3,000 seats of the CFR quickly filled with members of America's elite. Today, CFR members occupy key positions in government, the mass media, financial institutions, multinational corporations, the military, and the national security apparatus.
Since its inception, the CFR has served as an intermediary between high finance, big oil, corporate elitists and the U.S. government. The executive branch changes hands between Republican and Democratic administrations, but cabinet seats are always held by CFR members. It has been said by political commentators on the left and on the right that if you want to know what U.S. foreign policy will be next year, you should read Foreign Affairs this year.
The CFR's claim that "The Council has no affiliation with the U.S. government" is laughable. The justification for that statement is that funding comes from member dues, subscriptions to its Corporate Program, foundation grants, and so forth. All this really means is that the U.S. government does not exert any control over the CFR via the purse strings.
Since 1940, every U.S. secretary of state (except for Gov. James Byrnes of South Carolina, the sole exception) has been a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and/or its younger brother, the Trilateral Commission. Also since 1940, every secretary of war and every secretary of defense has been a CFR member. During most of its existence, the Central Intelligence Agency has been headed by CFR members, beginning with CFR founding member Allen Dulles. Virtually every key U.S. national security and foreign policy adviser has been a CFR member for the past seventy years.
Almost all White House cabinet positions are occupied by CFR members. President Clinton, himself a member of the CFR, the Trilateral Commission and the Bilderberg Group, employs almost one hundred CFR members in his administration. Presidents come and go, but the CFR's power--and agenda--always remains.
The CFR's Shroud of Secrecy - On its web page, the CFR boasts that its magazine, Foreign Affairs, "is acclaimed for its analysis of recent international developments and for its forecasts of emerging trends." It's not much of a challenge to do so, though, when you play a part in determining what those emerging trends will be.
So are they predicting trends or creating them? The answer is fairly obvious to anyone who has earnestly reflected on the matter.
The CFR fancies itself to represent a diverse range cultural and political interests, but its members are predominantly wealthy males, and their policies reflect their elitist biases. The CFR attempts to maintain the charade of diversity via its Non-Attribution Rule, which allows members to engage in "a free, frank, and open exchange of ideas" without fear of having any of their statements attributed in public. The flip side of this, obviously, is a dark cloud of secrecy which envelopes the CFR's activities.
CFR meetings are usually held in secret and are restricted to members and very select guests. All members are free to express themselves at meetings unrestrained, because the Non-Attribution Rule guarantees that "others will not attribute or characterize their statements in public media forums or knowingly transmit them to persons who will," according to the Council on Foreign Relations' 1992 Annual Report.
The report goes on to forbid any meeting participant "to publish a speaker's statement in attributed form in any newspaper; to repeat it on television or radio, or on a speaker's platform, or in a classroom; or to go beyond a memo of limited circulation."
The end result is that the only information the public has on the CFR is the information they release for public consumption, which should send up red flags for anyone who understands the immense effect that CFR directives have on America's foreign policy. The public knows what the CFR wants the public to know about the CFR, and nothing more. There is one hole in the fog of secrecy, however: a book entitled Tragedy and Hope, written by an "insider" named Dr. Carroll Quigley, mentor of Bill Clinton.
