I was tearing up some old printed emails the other day and I noticed that the paper tears differently if torn from top to bottom or side to side. This tidbit should give you all something to do today.

Both ways were equally effective in separating the page, however the neatness of the tear depends on several factors such as the placement of the fingers.
THAT will become mute when my one sided paper hits the market on Ebay. Think of the tremendous savings to business who send out mail printed on one side only, no more waste due to that unused side AND it will tear perfectly regardless of all known variables. Most LTR size paper is Long Grain. If you draw an analogy to corrugated cardboard, the Long Edge of the paper is parallel to the ribs in the cardboard. So you can imagine why it tears as it does.
The same thing goes for paper curl. I have backgrounds in the paper industry and in copier/printer servicing. Understanding Long Grain paper helps resolve some jamming issues.
