Today I received a letter, two copies in fact. It demands me to send to them various documents supporting my witholding on line 25d of form 1040SR. W-2, W-2G, 1099-R. I pay a tax preparer to file electronically. I have never ever had this type of request before when filing electronically. I called my preparer and have an appointment to fix this mess. My preparer tells me this is not a big deal, and she will fax them the paperwork they require once I bring the letter to her.

What is getting me angry is that in the letter the good folks at the IRS state that once they receive the documents they demand, it will be another 6 to 8 weeks until they send me my refund. I should have already gotten my freaking refund by now. So is this a tactic by the IRS to delay paying me the money they owe me ? If this was the other way around, I suspect that I would be subject to interest and hefty penalties.

Contrary to your tax guy…. It’s always a big deal when dealing with them.
When you play the board game monopoly and the banker is a cheat and can change the rules at will then you cannot win .
It’s the same with the IRS. All you can do is try and minimize your losses.

In this instance it is get the job done quicker.

As for persecution, there are many mega rich, not just conservatives who have a persecution complex, avoiding their fair share.
