More and more our federal (and even state) government reminds me of United Way. Remember United Way? Millions of people gave 1% or more of their salary through payroll deductions to United Way. For years. Until - it was discovered that only six cents on the dollar (or something like that) went to the umbrella of causes United Way "supported" and the rest of the money went to - wait for it - United Way.
