“Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food”

– Hippocrates.

While there is some debate whether Hippocrates actually said those words, that statement is especially important today. Just look around and see the sorry state of the American public. Diabetes, high blood pressure, etc.

How can we as a nation be so uninformed and carless in the choices we make, including the food we eat. How can we allow our children to be poisoned with the food that they are serving in the public school system?

WOW! My grandchildren for the most part take their lunch...they much prefer "Mom's" cooking to school lunches. But they are "sports" kids, and on game days "fast food" is always an option.

Yes, we all eat a few things that aren't always good for us. But make it the exception rather than the rule.

We had dinner with a couple whose idea of "home-made" was adding a few things when you heated it up out of the box. Our family has always cooked "from scratch", (we were way too poor to eat out)...and as a result a lot of the women in my family were cooks to wealthy households, (especially during the Depression). Each generation has passed on their cooking skills, (and added a few). My grandsons get tired of "fast food" pretty quick. My son-in-law isn't a bad cook either. Altogether we're pretty lucky in the meal prep department

Same here. My mother enjoyed cooking, and wife is a fabulous cook. In addition to saving money, using fresh vegetables, herbs, good oils (no partially hydrogenated vegetable oils), non-GMO, wild caught fish, and meats containing no hormones or antibiotics, can make a vast difference in one's health.

so much of the school lunches ended in the trash.

Didn’t big Mike (VP) from the past WH promote healthy lunches….
While eating lobsters her/himself ?

I asked one of my grandsons, (this is his first year in High School), how the food was when they did eat at school...his reply; the Pizza wasn't too bad---they serve it everyday.
