Trials have these things called juries, which are composed of people who are in theory not supposed to sit in judgement with preconceived notions brought on by unauthorized disclosure of Grand Jury material. That's how it harms the defendant and benefits the prosecution. In case you were unaware, Grand Jury proceedings have no defense attorney. The prosecution presents their evidence with no provision for rebuttal or cross examination by the accused's representative. That is why a prosecutor can indict a ham sandwich and why the proceedings are confidential.
