Glad you posted this. Dwell on that question for a moment.

I also like Zemirah's response. I suppose that for a lot of people it depends on who your friends are, and whom you associate with. For a lot of people, it may come down to "acceptance by your peers" that drive their actions.

On a slightly different, but somewhat related note, that graphic reminded me of a recent "War Room" Steve Bannon podcast that I listened to. Bannon discussed the Super Bowl half-time show and the "Black National Anthem". He was critical of both, but I was surprised where most of his criticism was directed. It was not toward the NFL players, or even the NFL itself. He felt the NFL organization was just a bunch of administrative bureaucrats doing what they are expected to do. His main criticism was directed at the Billionaire owners, who want and need the acceptance of the country club crowd, and the wealthy global elites. You don't fight the Davos crowd if you want to be accepted by them. They follow their lead. I thought that a fascinating insight!

There's a clear line between questioning authority, and challenging it...

Exactly so. Talk is cheap - actions speak louder than words.

Not so clear, - the freedom of speech that existed in my youth is largely gone.

It is now dependent on the innate diplomacy with which we were gifted... and any encountered authority's BS meter.

Among today's indoctrinated "woke," words that question are routinely experienced as aggressive action.

It's an on-going battle. Look at what's happening in the House right now.
