The United States House of Representatives approved on February 2, 2023 a bill presented by the Florida congresswoman, María Elvira Salazar, which denounces socialism as an ideology, to prevent it from being imposed as a practice in United States territory.
The resolution lists a series of events in various countries with totalitarian governments, to point out that it is an ideology doomed to failure if it is taken as State policy.
“Socialist ideology needs a concentration of power that time and time again has collapsed in communist regimes, totalitarian governments, and brutal dictatorships,” Salazar wrote in the bill.
Some Democratic congressmen during the debate expressed their concern that, when referring to socialist policies, social programs such as Medicare, Social Security or the low-cost housing could be included.
“There is nothing in this resolution about entitlement programs or prohibition of social services, or anything like that,” clarified Patrick McHenry, Republican congressman of North Carolina, who further said: “The resolution is simple. It states that Congress denounces socialism in all its forms and opposes the implementation of socialist policies in the United States."
Mario Diaz-Balart, a Republican congressman from Florida, argued that recent history has shown that while socialism and communism promise greater equality and "free" services, they "quickly degenerate into shared misery for all but a minority”.
The vote to approve this resolution was 328 in favor (75%), 86 against (20%) and 21 abstentions (5%). The 222 Republican congressmen voted in favor along with 106 Democratic congressmen, with the votes against and abstentions coming entirely from Democrats.
With the approval of this resolution in the House of Representatives by ¾ parts of the congressmen, the next step would be to take it to the Senate to also submit it to a vote; but Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., is unlikely to allow a vote on the legislation; although it could be the case that a number of liberal senators, not committed to the shadow power that dominates the party, could put pressure on him, supported by all the Republican senators who are surely in favor of condemning the socialist ideology.
It must be taken into account that of the 213 Democratic congressmen in the House, 50% approved the resolution against socialism and 10% abstained, which are those who, although they are not in favor of socialism, do not want to oppose the puppeteers who manage the party from the shadow.

I often read here at OPP how those who defend the ideas of the socialist left are confused with the "liberals", who really consider themselves to be leftists in the political spectrum; but they are not socialists, the liberals having become (according to historical development) moderate leftists, who tend towards centrism, sharing this tendency with moderate conservatives, who are on the right on the political spectrum. Which would serve to describe the political position of the members of the Republican and Democratic parties some decades ago.
Currently, the Democratic Party is in the process of being totally hijacked by the Marxists, who, concealing their true purposes, pose as "liberals" in order not to scare American society; although every day they distance themselves more from the liberal idea; and little by little the wolf begins to show its hairy ear, when certain personalities of that party declare to be "progressives" or frankly "socialists". The latter seek total control of the state and for this they develop clientelism, through the application of social welfare measures, the protection of privileges for minorities and multiculturalism, with a policy of open borders to immigration, in order to obtain votes to make their claims come true.
Socialism is a system totally contrary to liberal ideas. Economically, it is based on state ownership of the means of production, their collective administration and the distribution of goods; which implies a planning and organization of social life, attacking individual freedom that is sacrificed for the sake of collective well-being. "Socialism" and "totalitarianism" are synonymous with "collectivism"; and this, in turn, is an organization model incompatible with human freedom.
The socialists intend to distribute the wealth that others create, as long as they do not manage to totally control society, promoting laws to grant benefits that can only be granted as long as capitalism exists and there are those who pay taxes to cover the benefits granted; but all of the above changes when the socialists achieve totalitarian control of society, because together with capitalism wealth ceases to exist and the unequal distribution of misery begins, which does not affect the "new" ruling class.

Of course, for a useful idiot who defends the "Democratic Socialism" promoted by Mr. Bernie Sanders (who, without a doubt, was a supporter of the implementation of Soviet socialism in the USA during the Cold War), what was proposed by this politician Marxist is correct, without thinking about the end that this socialist pursues. Let's see what a useful idiot wrote (verbatim) here at OPP commenting on this politician: "He is for progressive taxes, a strong workplace where workers are respected and treated fairly and enjoy the fruits of collective bargaining. Old age pensions and universal health. Young people today are not stupid, they see that they are not getting the opportunity that their parents and grandparents had by birthright. They are sick of being hurt by corporate welfare and crony capitalism. McCarthyism's tale of the end of the world and warning of a communist behind every tree rings false when our companies and politicians are in bed with the Chinese, Russians and Arabs."
Whoever makes this comment forgets that Bernie Sanders was in bed with the Soviets, enemies of the USA whom he admired and that in the USSR there was no "paradise" for workers.

Socialism is the ideology of the Nazis and the communists, which arises from Marxism; being undeniable that the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics and the National Socialist Party of German Workers, according to their names, in one way or another followed this ideology.
On September 19, 2019, the European Parliament approved a resolution on the importance of European historical memory for the future of Europe that equates communism and Nazism, both socialist systems.
The resolution approved by the European Parliament states that "while the crimes of the Nazi regime were evaluated and punished thanks to the Nuremberg trials, there is still an urgent need to raise awareness about the crimes perpetrated by Stalinism and other dictatorships, evaluate them morally and legally, and carry out judicial investigations on them” and recalls that “in some Member States, communist and Nazi ideologies are prohibited by law”. It also notes that "the European Union has a special responsibility to promote and protect democracy, respect for human rights and the rule of law, not only within but also outside the European Union."

Very well said. Everyone seems to gloss over the 100,000,000 people who were sacrificed for this ideology.

This is a very good post! I am in agreement with it all. Would you agree that there is an interim step between no socialism and full socialism?

In my stint in Holland during 1974-1984, the government, ostensibly a Constitutional Monarchy, had a leftist government that managed to pass extremely socialist legislation. It was quite beneficial to me, in fact, with 6 weeks of vacation, 9 holidays, An auto allowance, a clothing allowance, a children's allowance (kinderbyslag), and the best of a two-tiered health insurance system.

For all of this, my tax bill was north of 65%, plus a VAT tax of 18% on all purchases and dining out!

The industry was not directly owned by the government, although they had a small percentage of ownership of some companies such as my parent company Philips of Eindhoven and I presume others too.

Since that time, I know things have straightened out, because they almost went broke giving a hundred thousand unemployed guest-workers (mostly Turkish) a basic 70% of their former salary, and other breaks, such as schooling, housing and vacations.

Thanks for this info, Alber. There should be very strict laws imposed on anyone trying to push socialism. What a hateful word socialism is. A social would denote a pleasant get-together over a few beers, or glasses of wine. Socialism is used to bring down a country. Life in Gitmo for everyone caught assisting the socialist politicians in stealing an election. Hang all the principle socialist politicians. They are a cancer on a decent society.

The United States House of Representatives approve... (show quote)

Socialism Is Not the ideology of the Nazis.
It is more
Authoritarianism and Nationalism.
You are confusing yourself with Hitlers origins and vehicles he used to take over the Weimar Republic.

Why are you against the People Choosing their government ? A government that benefits all instead of only the Few at the Expense of The Many.

How many would the decent society consist of ?

What you write is totally ridiculous and it shows that you do not have the slightest knowledge of what you write. I propose that you read the following words carefully: "We are socialists, we are enemies of the current capitalist economic system because it exploits those who are weak from an economic point of view, with their unequal salaries, with their indecent evaluation of a human being according to their wealth or not, instead of evaluating the responsibility and performance of the person, and we are determined to destroy this capitalist system in all its aspects.” These words may have been spoken, unsurprisingly to anyone, by young congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio Cortez, a supporter of socialism, or by her guru, pro-Soviet Marxist-Leninist comrade Senator Bernie Sanders.
If you sympathize with socialism, you will surely applaud these words. If so, you would be applauding Adolf Hitler, who pronounced them on Labor Day (May 1) in the year 1927. You really have no reason to be ashamed, because Hitler was a "socialist" and a Marxist; he was a leftist, as are those who promote or accept that the Democratic party, which a few decades ago was a party with liberal and conservative wings, is being polarized to become a socialist party, with tendencies towards Nazi-Fascism.
To illustrate it, I am going to quote the most notorious Nazis and Fascists in history. Let's see what these disastrous characters say: Adolf Hitler considered himself "the authentic producer of Marxism" (H. Rauschning, in Hitler told me, De Cooperation, Paris, 1939, p. 112); and none other than Goebbels, propaganda minister of Nazi Germany, was the one who confessed that - "The national-socialist movement has only one teacher: Marxism" - (Kampf um Berlin, p. 19); and coinciding with Marxist ideologues- he affirmed that "Socialism is the conception of the world of the future that can only be realized in the Socialist State" (Die Zweite Revolution). And furthermore he expresses:-"We are socialists and mortal enemies of the capitalist economic system"-(Der Nationalsozialismus, Die Weltanschaung des 20 Jahrhunderts). For his part, and not to be less eloquent, Mussolini is pleased to affirm that Marx is his spiritual father. (Mussolini and fascism Ed. Que sais-je, p. 31). Nazism and fascism are, by definition, a version of Marxist socialism. Actually, the term Nazi is an abbreviation of the words "National Socialist", included in the name of the German Workers' Party that defines the political tendency of that party.
Socialists are expert illusionists and create mirages by repeating lies. Goebbels is credited with the phrase: "A lie repeated a thousand times becomes the truth." There are those who attribute this phrase to Lenin and say that Goebbels only picked it up. The truth is that these two promoters of the Marxist idea insisted with emphasis on the "adequate" use of lies beyond ethics and morality in order to achieve a "higher purpose."
Making believe that Nazi-fascism is an ideology of the extreme right is the greatest propaganda success of the socialist left in its entire history, with which it has created an ideological mirage in order to confuse and divert attention from its crimes, which has as a "higher purpose" to clean up his image a bit. Objectively, Nazi-fascism is a socialist (Marxist) ideology, linked to nationalist sentiment; that did not arise on the right but within the socialist movement of the left, after the event that was the Russian Revolution of 1917 and that served to propagate all kinds of revolutionary and anti-system socialism, including those we know as fascism or Nazism.

Bill Maher said of those young people who said let's try Socialism, said "why don't we shit in the kitchen and eat in the bathroom, we haven't tried that yet?" There's a lot of things we haven't tried because cooler heads prevail! But joe biden and his administration has gone the farthest into Socialism that any administration before it! Just one question to the biden administration? Once you kill the middleclass completely where is the money going to come from? There may not be a middleclass by 2024!
