The Talmud is not the word of God, nor does it claim to be. It is not legally binding on anyone unless they choose
to abide by some portion of it.
Practically anything can be found in it!
For instance, I knew an undergrad college student, who preceding an annual spring Passover season, scanned the Talmud, searching for a recorded opinion which she could quote to legitimize her being able to continue eating her favorite snack, peanut butter, during that week as "kosher for passover."
