Is shale oil from North Dakota a different type of oil than tar sands oil from Canada? If so, how can they use the same pipe line? The gauges on these pipelines are set up to measure what is going through them. If the composition of the oil is changed, won't he gauges need to be changed?

So let's just build a short pipeline that can hook up with the existing line that goes through ND. Why build a Canadian pipeline that has to pass through Montana South Dakota across our largest fresh water supply in Nebraska. When we can join up with an existing pipeline already built that will take care of American oil production. Also this pipeline has to pass through Oklahoma and Texas.

This pipeline does not and will not do anything for American oil production and the reason Obama has said nothing is because there's nothing that can be said because there is already an existing line in ND so build our own and join up with the existing one and not put other areas of our country at risk of leaks and blow outs.

So please just check facts instead of GOPTP propaganda

Crude oil is similar, whether from conventional drilling, shale, or tar sands. The difference is in its composition at each particular source, and what has to be done to get the oil into a state that can be transported to a refinery. Once the crude can be pumped into a pipeline, the pipeline doesn't care from where it came.

There are obviously significant differences depending on the source, but the composition of oil being sold to refineries - and pipelined or tankered to them - is tightly specified as part of the purchase contract so transportation is assuredly appropriate.

Just build another pipeline along the same route that way your not putting our lakes and streams at risk. Shale and tar sands is actually the same shale is extracted from deep in the ground so it is already heated Tar sands not a a depth deep enough to be heated so they have to heat it with high temperature water to extract it. But it ends up with more water in the oil that will cause the pipe to Rust out a lot faster. It makes no sense for the Keystone pipeline to be built it has no benefit to the US. If ND needs it okay that increases oil production in this country

Where am I wrong stop your childish insults. I have no problem with another pipeline if it's American oil. But I do have a problem with Canadian oil being pumped through our country to be shipped out to the international market.

My insults!?!?!

When ignorance is revealed,,, it is NOT the problem of the person revealing it.... but the imbecile who espouses the stupidity..

Your version of what the pipeline IS,,, is laughable to people who know what a pipeline is,,,

typical liberal,,, high ideals, and self infatuation..... low intelligence,,zero facts,,,,

Allow me to simplify,,, you are a dumb f-ck...

Wrong. Regular crude and the high temperature, high pressure tar sands do not mix without explosion. This is some more misinformation that is the stock-in-trade of certain industry stooges.

You really need to let your brain engage before your mouth does, at least sometimes. It DOES matter the type of oil. The high temp/high pressure that the tar sands need, would vaporize regular lite crude, causing an explosion.
