The man who wrote this piece deserves nothing more than an old fashioned "blanket party" like we used to give those who stole anything from others' lockers and foot lockers. I only took part in one of those parties because we didn't have any more thefts after that party.
This crud says that our annual remembrance of vets is scary to liberals like him. Realize that this appeared in Salon and maybe you can see why I often take that site to task.

As a Viet Nam vet, I don't think that honoring vets is wrong. We owe our freedom to these brave warriors. Sometimes it goes a little far and seems to honor war. Anybody that has ever seen war knows that there is nothing glorius about seeing your friend turn into a gob of blood and guts.

Sir, first thank you for your service. And nobody should honor war. But honoring the men and women who answered the call and didn't run and hide is great. You say you were in Vietnam. That was a horrible place and you guys had the U.S. government hindering you as much as the North Vietnamese. I salute you for your bravery and sacrifice. It was brave men like you that paved the way for guys like me. Again sir, thank you and GOD BLESS

War is a last resort act of defending this country.
I do honor war, as I would honor the act of killing an intruder into my child's bedroom.
It's an unfortunate necessity. An honorable act by honorable heroes.
This pisses me off. What this liberal has to say is bullshit. This individual more than likely didn't serve in the US Armed Forces, nor for that matter the Boy Scouts,or the Girl Scouts.
This liberal doesn't know the price of freedom. I am most grateful to all of this countries VETERANS for their courage their honor, sacrifice and unselfishness.
THANK YOU TO ALL VETERANS.

DITTO, I could'nt agree more!
Major, I was aboard a destroyer off the coast on the gun line. I only saw the face of the enemy once in battle. We both know that the real heroes gave their lives for this blessed land. I think we should thank those brave kids for their service.

Only those who served and the families who waited, praying not to see the staff car can truly understand what it means. I would not enjoy what freedoms I have without the sacrifice of these brave men and women.
I will honor these heroes and quite frankly I do not care what anyone thinks of it. Most of the people who have a problem with honoring vets are the same people who threw pig blood on my husband and called him a baby killer. I didn't care what they thought then and I sure don't care now.
I was in a public bus station going back to my ship. The same thing happened to me. A very young hippie girl spit on me and called me a baby killer. I noticed that she was wearing a star of David. I asked her if she was only against this war or every war. She replied every war. I told her that if it were not for guys like me, people like her would have been made into charcoal briquettes. I have told this story several times on this sight.

The fools who spout such garbage against those who serve to protect our very rights as citizens, as well as keep the world a better place, deserve not time nor emotion spent on them. Just ignorant scum.
I believe those who serve, armed services, fireman, police, hospital personal, vets or anyone who puts their lives on the line to protect or help others, should be honored above all else. Thank You All!!!

If you want to honor our veterans after all of the flag waving and wreath laying sit down and write a letter to your Senators and Congressmember and tell them you want, no demand, proper funding for the VA so that we can care for the men and women who served our country. And if they tell you they cant afford to give them your permission to raise taxes to pay the debt we owe these brave men and women. All of the wreaths, flags and 21 gun salutes in the world will not give a homeless vet a meal, education, health care, job or roof over their head. Tell congress to support our vets how they need to be supported not with hot air.
Kevyn, You make a lot of sense.

Thank you for your service my friend. I want to honor you and all service personal this day. I like you did my time in Korea. Never been so seared in all my life. Seen and been in a lot of bad stuff. Much as I don't like what this ass hole had to say, I fought to defined his rights to say that as well.
I found this quote some time back. I so agree with it.
Have a great day my friend. God bless you and all who served.
(( FREEDOM ))
A REASON TO GO TO WAR
WAR IS AN UGLY THING, BUT NOT THE UGLIEST OF THINGS.
THE DECAYED AND DEGRADED STATE OF MORAL AND PATRIOTIC FEEELING WHICH THINKS THAT NOTHING IS WORTH WAR IS WORSE.
THE PERSON WHO HAS NOTHING
FOR WHICH HE IS WILLING TO FIGHT, NOTHING WHICH IS MORE IMPORTANT THAT HIS OWN PERSONAL SAFTY, IS A MISERABLE CREATURE, AND HAS NO CHANCE OF BEING FREE UNLESS MADE OR KEPT SO BY THE EXERTIONS OF BETTER MEN THAN HIMSELF.
JOHN STUART MILL
God Bless the U.S.A
This useless, ignorant, POS, pathetic liberal can thank a soldier that he has the right to voice his sick, anti-American opinions! In my heart I know that patriotic Americans still far out number these hate filled traitors AND until we rise up and take a stand against these arrogant, narcissist assholes they will continue their attack on America. The elections were a good start, BUT we still have a ways to go! We must stay on our guard and battle these commie bastards to our graves!

I'm all for honoring those who have served. But I think one - only one - sentence in this piece has validity: "It is a particularly childish trait, of a childlike culture, that insists on anointing all active military members and police officers as heroes."
If you call someone a hero simply because they are/have been in uniform, what do you call someone who has served honorably under fire, endangering himself to save others? As a combat vet, I see a huge difference between wearing a uniform and performing under hostile fire.
