God bless this young man
Yes, I know exactly what Nick Bostic was facing in there.
In my career, I had the distinct advantage of working with a trained crew equipped with protective clothing,
air paks, tools, and with a 1000 gallon pumper charging our hose lines.
I wholeheartedly salute Nick, that was a courageous thing to do.
And, I know how he must feel now.
No words can describe the feelings of firefighters who have saved peoples lives.
I will never forget one frigid winter night when I was the Fire Equipment Engineer for Engine Co. 4.
Two children were trapped on the second floor of a burning home. Our two firefighters didn't hesitate,
they donned their air paks, went up a ladder, broke through a window and got the two kids out.
Both kids had heart beats, one was not breathing. Fortunately, anticipating medical treatment would be necessary,
our captain had called for paramedics. They got the kids to the hospital while we worked on the fire.
Just before we went off duty at 0800, our captain called the hospital to check on the children.
Both kids would be OK.
Our celebration was quite emotional.
