A country fiunded by genuises, run by idiots

If plastic water bottles are okay,
but plastic bags are banned, — you might live in a nation (state) that
was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots
If you can get arrested for
hunting or fishing without a license, but not for entering and remaining
in the country illegally — you might live in a nation that was founded
by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If
you have to get your parents’ permission to go on a field trip or to
take an aspirin in school, but not to get an abortion — you might live
in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by
idiots.

If you MUST show your
identification to board an airplane, cash a check, buy liquor, or check
out a library book and rent a video, but not to vote for who runs the
government — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but
is run by idiots.

If the government wants to prevent
stable, law-abiding citizens from owning gun magazines that hold more
than ten rounds, but gives twenty F-16 fighter jets to the crazy new
leaders in Egypt — you might live in a nation that was founded by
geniuses but is run by idiots.

If, in the nation’s largest city,
you can buy two 16-ounce sodas, but not one 24-ounce soda, because
24-ounces of a sugary drink might make you fat — you might live in a
nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If an 80-year-old woman who is
confined to a wheelchair or a three-year-old girl can be strip-searched
by the TSA at the airport, but a woman in a burka or a hijab is only
subject to having her neck and head searched — you might live in a
nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If your government believes that
the best way to eradicate trillions of dollars of debt is to spend
trillions more — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses
but is run by idiots.

If a seven-year-old boy can be
thrown out of school for saying his teacher is “cute” but hosting a
sexual exploration or diversity class in grade school is perfectly
acceptable — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but
is run by idiots.

If hard work and success are met
with higher taxes and more government regulation and intrusion while not
working is rewarded with Food Stamps, WIC checks, Medicaid benefits,
subsidized housing, and free cell phones — you might live in a nation
that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If you pay your mortgage
faithfully, denying yourself the newest big-screen TV, while your
neighbor buys iPhones, time shares, a wall-sized do-it-all plasma screen
TV and new cars, and the government forgives his debt when he defaults
on his mortgage — you might live in a nation that was founded by
geniuses but is run by idiots.

If being stripped of your
Constitutional right to defend yourself makes you more “safe” according
to the government — you might live in a nation that was founded by
geniuses but is run by idiots.

If all the people who work for a living get out and vote we might stand a chance to turn the United States of America around. That is, of course, there are more people working that are on the dole.

No, I disagree, it's just that we have allowed punks and illegals and criminals not to mention stupid people to vote for Obama and Harry Reid and allowed Holder to be Attorney General twice. Stupid populace does stupid stuff. Obama's foreign policy of "not doing stupid stuff" should have been just do nothing and stupid stuff happens.

The real goal of the GOP should not be to try and turn those who vote Democrat into voting Republican but to convince those who do not vote at all that the GOP is going to be different and worth voting for.

(I have shortened it, obviously, so as to not take up so much space, but every word of your thread relevant).....Put so succinctly, how could anyone disagree. Kudos to you. The only thing you left out and I know how open this leaves me to have a stamp of "idiot" placed on my head....yeah, but they are/were clever enough, those idiots, to get people like "me" with the "best" of intentions to vote for them.

But that's part of the continuing problem. The GOP is NOT going to be different. Should they be put in charge, they'll do the same things they've always done - and get the same results they've always got. That's a good definition of insanity. There are no new ideas, or approaches in the GOP.

There's as reason why we've switched back and forth between the GOP and the Dems, for years and years. Short term memory loss. We forget that the last time the GOP ran things, they screwed it up, then we forget that the last time the Dems ran things, they screwed it up too. Those who do not suffer the memory loss, can see this destructive pattern.

The solution then is obvious, stop voting in a majority of either of those parties. Start voting independent and change the paradigm. The GOP and Dems need to learn to " work well with others " and are only going to get that lesson, if neither of them has the majority. Right now, what ever party that has control, REFUSES to work with the minority party and the minority party REFUSES to work with the majority party. Our own history shows us that our best years were accomplished - when all parties worked together. This is impossible under the current paradigm and simply switching back to the GOP isn't going to change anything.

If we agree to "Vote Incumbents OUT!" New people will bring their "Best Game" to the process; knowing full well there is only one term for them. So if they want to make a name for themselves, it will be because they improved on the terrible existing culture. The entire political culture is deceitfully corrupt and collaborative. In order to make the necessary improvements and corrections; we must first: "Vote Incumbents OUT!" Thank You.

That's a damn fine start. However, if the replacements come from the same party as the incumbents, the party bosses will rule them as well, resulting in a repeat of the previous paradigm.

The REAL problem, IMHO, is getting enough people to vote at all! The Dems did a much better job than republicans at getting their people to come out to the polls. Nothing cuts through my heart like hearing someone say, "Well, it was a long day at work, I didn't feel like stopping to vote on my way home." Our all mail voting here in WA might help somewhat but the big problem I see is people just not taking voting seriously.

Well, badbobby, I'm going to do my best. I hope everyone else does the same. A belated welcome to you by the way and just so you know, you probably ought to click on quote/reply before you post in response to another's comments. That way, everyone will know who and what you are responding to. Sometimes, in the heat of the moment, confusion reigns, and occasionally someone will be known to respond "you talking to me??!!??"

I think what has to happen is absolute term limits. One term per person, nothing more. All private and corp money has to be removed from the process. Do what they do now with the primaries, then the funding for the election comes out of the Fed money and no private money can come in under penalty of jail term. Each "party' gets exactly the same amount. Any political expenditures by a sitting President comes directly out of their pockets personally. Something drastic has to be done to fix this thing. I don't pretend to know all the answers but major change needs to occur.
