It’s desolate.
The USA has the highest possible environmental standards and regulations that oil companies must operate under.
So you’d rather get your oil from countries with the laxest environmental standards. And meanwhile push the financial burden to the poorest of US citizens.
That’s like saying, “I don’t like the high cost of goods made in America, so I’d rather buy my goods from countries who employee child-slave-labor for the lowest possible wages they can get away with”.
My, aren’t you a model of morality? Not!

We don’t need the oil, we are transitioning to carbon neutral energy sources and have more than enough oil to facilitate this transformation without fouling a pristine wildlife refuge.

We dp need the oil, and you're not transitioning to anywhere besides Hell.

But Grasshopper: Why are we importing oil?
I try so hard to teach you critical thinking skills - a thankless task, but someone has to do it. There are some here who don't believe you have that capacity (they are probably right), but I certainly have to try.

What a great way to weaken a country!! Not to mention ruin an economy. It is probably why so many nations on the planet aren't going to do it, no mater what they might have claimed.

And what a contradiction; we cut production only to go beg others to increase production. Why??? YOu think their carbon pollution is just going to stay on that side of the planet????? Ever pee in a swimming pool??????

And seriously weak enforcement, not to mention the way trump ripped into many of those laws and protections.
...Repealing the EPA mileage standard goals passed by congress
...Repealing bans on unnecessary toxic chemicals for agriculture

At the very least a serious discussion should happen,(remember those) weigh the pro and cons without descending into partisanship
