From: Wall Street Journal, Oct. 9, 2014

In recent weeks it has emerged that the Canadians have found a startling alternative to the Obama Keystone XL Pipeline refusal.

They are going to build a pipeline from the oil sands in Alberta and Saskatchewan to the refineries in St. John, New Brunswick, on the Atlantic Ocean.

(end of story)

------------------------------------------
The energy project will allow Canadians to ship their toxic, prehistoric tar sludge, which they call "oil", to Europe and points east (after being "refined").

Energy east hopes to be finished in 2018.

That just goes to show, that even in this day of "whiners united", hard work and perseverance can still be effective.

Keystone may be dead for now but other pipelines will have to be built. We are at 70% pipeline capacity and nearing 90% refinery capacity. Export of crude oil has been banned since 1968 . Loop holes are being found. America now has the largest oil reserves on the planet. The oil boom is just begining. the next president will get credit for a booming economy. Wait and see.

I agree. The task now is for N. American environmentalists to lean hard on Canada, to eventually shut down "oil" extraction from the toxic sludge tar pits.

One down. One to go.

Brian... the tar sands will help provide product for this energy hungry planet ... the more resources close to home the less the need for war... If Koch spent half the time and money building a new refinery closer to the source than piping it across the country this XL bull would be over... Koch has plenty of money .... the XL would be the most profitable way for Koch with America taking all the risk.... I find it pathetic that this debate has gone this far... When the super rich refuse to reinvest in America we have a problem...

Last I heard there was a brief filed in district court. I think what is happening is Courts are dragging feet until after mid terms. Just my guess. You know how this goes as well as I do.

It is not that there are a lack of people to build new refinery's. Government won't issue permits. Thank the environmentalists. We could literally be energy independent if Gov. would act responsible.

What's the point of N. American grown energy if it's toxic waste is going to poison us? I have never been one to believe that it is smart to piss in the bowl you drink out of.

Effective birth control, reduction in consumption, and green technologies all offer a better future for the citizens of this planet than running our cars on prehistoric tar-sludge.

WHAT??? Where did you get this thiking? If the non-energy people will fight so hard to stop a non-invasive pipe line, what do you think they'll say about a new refinery? Exactly where do you envision such a facility could be built? How many decades will it take for permitting?
