Looks like Putin has bitten off more than he can chew
Vladimir Putin has killed Swedish and Swiss neutrality, as well as German pacifism, in a single weekend. On Monday, the Russian economy will begin collapsing. 7 major developments.
1) The European Union (EU) will provide Ukraine with "fighter jets." They are expected to come from Poland, Romania and Slovakia, which all operate Russian fighter jets. No Ukrainian pilot knows how to fly western war planes.
2) The EU is also sending $500 million and has closed its airspace to Russian-owned, registered or controlled aircraft. They won’t be able to land in, take off or overfly the territory of the EU.
3) The Russian currency markets will be pounded when they open on Monday. The Russian bank Tinkoff is now offering to exchange rubles for dollars at a rate of 171 rubles per dollar. It was 83 last week.
Few can travel to Russia because almost all international flights have ceased. Credit cards and other international means of payment will cease tomorrow and the stock market and Russian bonds will collapse.
4) GOP lawmakers on Monday will propose a full embargo on Russian oil and gas. They are also asking President Biden to change policy and share intelligence with Ukraine. Sen. Ben Sasse (R-NE) says "Ukrainian freedom-fighters need life-and-death, real-time intelligence to kill Russian invaders, not more half-ass bureaucratic measures.”
5) Sweden has announced it will deliver 5000 anti-armor rocket launchers, 5000 body armor kits, 5000 helmets, and 135,000 field rations to the Ukrainian armed forces.
Finland is sending a similar package.
Poland and Romania are giving shelter to 400,000 Ukrainians, and they are providing aid and weapons. Hungary is providing fuel and Russian attack helicopters.
Switzerland was neutral during WW II but it is now joining the EU in sanctioning Russia.
6) President Zelensky has asked Turkey to close the Black Sea to choke off Russia's naval fleet, which would aid the Ukrainian resistance. It would greatly harm Putin's ability to get supplies and Russian troops into Ukraine, and Turkey is expected to cooperate.
7) Kosovo has asked the asked NATO to speed up its membership application, and they want a NATO base in their country.
