Today, a friend and I drove to El Paso on some business. He is the type that tries to make room for all contingencies, so we found ourselves two and half hours early for our meeting, which was to be first at Denny's and then to a TV station. We decided to have a leisurely breakfast, a very leisurely breakfast, and wait. When I sat in the booth, I looked out the window and flying over the highway were the Texan and American flags and I felt a sudden pang": if only these two flags could stand side by side and wave together in real life. I was surprised at how much this saddened me.

We are forgetting America in this partisan war. The extremists on both sides are handing our future and liberties over to the enemies of this great country. The government is growing fat and unhealthy through inaction, platter's full of hot rhetoric to chew on and nothing getting done. Talk of secession and rebellion is nothing more than the threat of suicide for this nation. And I know what will happen as soon as I post this: insults and accusations will be hurled back and forth across the aisle that only act to defame a once proud republic. So why bother? One can only hope it might make a difference to speak out one more time.

What do you have against TEXAS? There are no finer people than those born and raised in Texas. Exception for Virginia, they are the salt of the earth. True, they have principals and they are also supporters of individual rights as opposed to big government, but they are really quite easy to talk with, they are not judgmental and they are respectful. Gentlemen there are true gentlemen, they would never vent on women or children and fly the flag with pride. Are you aware that the south are the vast majority of the military? Texas being in 1st place for volunteers. How can you even imply that they are anti-American?

Talk of secession and rebellion is brought on by government ineptness; by an invasion of our country by Mexicans and Central Americans, which is being aided, abetted and legitimized by the criminals in DC. This sort of talk stems from frustration with a corrupt and incompetent, and oligarchical government that thinks life begins and ends inside the DC Beltway. Texas is being overrun by illegals, while Establishment Washington plays it's fiddle, and they ain't playing "Cotton Eyed Joe."
Texans are not stupid, they see this invasion for what it is: An attempt to change the demographic by legitimizing hordes of wetbacks with a view to giving them voting rights, which they usually exercise in an overwhelmingly Democrat manner. If they want to vote for Democrats, fine; let them stand in line and wait for citizenship like everyone else. The ONLY REASON there is such a push for amnesty is a desire to reinforce the Democrat voter base.

Apparently big government strategists in DC hav no problem with the fact that these illegals have no desire to assimilate. They will, if given the franchise, vote for the same kind of corrupt sewer that is Mexican government today. The same thing they are ostensibly trying to escape.

Think very carefully, all you amnesty supporters. Be careful what you wish for; because what you wish for is, in the final analysis, "La Republica de Mexico del Norte, Con Tarjetas de Estampillas de comida para Todo el Mundo, (Especialmente para los Mexicanos )."

It is the same way I feel about leftists, whose rights I defended,,, as they intellectually rationalize, away the rights, religion, jobs, lives, and freedoms of others,,, then get their little as-es up,,,because "WE" aren't intelligent enough to understand "THEIR" superior intelligence, innate goodness, and their higher and more noble "LOVE for mankind" as they outlaw gun ownership to save lives, but legalize pot, abortions, and now 9 wars by our leftist president...

Welcome to our world,,, sad isn't it???

I agree with one point, Both sides are to blame for the mess we are in. I believe the talk of secession and rebellion is born out of frustration. We have a government which ignores the will of the people. Doesn't matter which party is elected.

Our government has become fat and lazy. They have accomplished almost nothing in the last two years. Yet we continue to elect them. A friend of mine pointed out to me: When the government shut down, most people didn't even notice. Perhaps, we do not need them.

If only our president saw only half of what you said as true. I have never, and hope I never again, see a president who is more corrupt and escapes punishment. All america deserves better. Until entitlement programs are lifted, things will stay in the gutter.

I know why there is talk of secession. I also know that it will certainly destroy this nation if it happens, that is why I was saddened. No matter how hard it is, we have to start listening to each other and working together.

I am not an amnesty supporter.

Secession is treason plain and simple and any elected official suggesting secession should be run out of office.

You know if you put some effort into making your posts clear, that is not making people guess what you are complaining about, then you would avoid much misunderstanding. Just come out and say what you are upset over....

Well, from my standpoint. Liberals have been bad mouthing Texas for a few years. They are just fed up. They want to protect their boarders and make the decisions about state concerns. Liberals have said that they are backwards, selfish, and often use the term cowboy as a derogatory term. Those that complain are not the ones being invaded, they are critical from a safe (at least for now) distance from the devastating affects of those pouring over the border. It is not their budgets that are stretched to provide for these invaders, it is not their schools, it is not their jobs that are being lost, and it is not their children that are being influenced by drug runners, beggars, and threats of violence, and it is not their property values that have taken a nose dive. So, now the Liberals want to complain because Texas says, okay you don't respect us as a state, you want to take and never give (such as security at the boarders) then we will do it for ourselves as a nation. Seems to me that now the talk is turning to condemning them because after all the insults and assaults on Texas they want a divorce from Liberals.

"The government is growing fat and unhealthy from inaction"???

When has government action resulted in weight loss? Action means Pork. Action is how we find ourselves with Unsustainable debt and entitlement programs. Less action will result in a healthier and less fat America.

Yes the division in America concerns me. I long for a President who would be just as compassionate when a white girl is kidnapped or a white boy is killed in NJ by a Black Muslim jihadist. But all Obama can see is Ferguson and Trayvon. How about being a President for ALL Americans and not just African Americans? Obama even brought up Ferguson at the UN. Not one word about Hannah Graham or Brendan Tevlin.

First, I was not complaining in my initial post; it was a pang of sadness that there may come a day Texas and America may no longer stand side by side. Sorry that was unclear to you. Second, I do make an effort for clarity. Third, it is not my experience that there is "much misunderstanding" over my posts. Fourth, I did come out and say what I was upset over: you mistook that as a beef against the Long Horn State. I never said anything against Texas.

It started with American business recruiting Mexican labor to the meatpacking, hotel-motel , agricultural, and construction businesses. Any attempt by politicians to pass legislation penalizing businessmen for hiring illegal or undocumented aliens have been quickly quashed. Working Americans on the other hand having only the power of their one vote have been helpless in the face of the onslaught of union busting tactics. Meatpacking for instance once unionized is now non union. American workers replaced by Hispanics willing to work for subsistence
