Seems a lot of the leftist on OPP believe anyone who is rich either inherited their money or obtained it in some nefarious borderline illegal scheme. And, as usual, they are wrong.

According to Forbes, these are the 10 richest people in America:

Jeff Bezos: Self-made billionaire. Did not inherit his wealth.

Bill Gates: Self-made billionaire. Did not inherit his wealth.

Warren Buffett: Self-made billionaire. Did not inherit his wealth.

Larry Ellison: Self-made billionaire. Did not inherit his wealth.

Mark Zuckerberg: Self-made billionaire. Did not inherit his wealth.

Michael Bloomberg: Self-made billionaire. Did not inherit his wealth.

Larry Page: Self-made billionaire. Did not inherit his wealth.

Charles Koch and David Koch: They did inherit the company from their father.

Sergey Brin: Self-made billionaire. Did not inherit his wealth.

Do you have a point? Being a self-made billionaire doesn't excuse someone from paying taxes. There isn't a single billionaire out there who still wouldn't be a billionaire if they paid the same percentage rate as any one of their employees.

And here is another point. There was a time when each and every one of them paid taxes so paying taxes doesn't preclude anyone from succeeding. Taxes aren't a "burden"...not when you are a billionaire and you conservatives need to stop protecting them and allow them to be treated like everyone else...

Remember that "responsibility" thing? Well, billionaires have a responsibility to...

Gee Pete, if these billionaires "paid the same percentage rate as any one of their employees" they wouldn't be paying their fair share. Are you actually stupid enough to think that they're in the same tax bracket as their employees who according to your side are grossly underpaid because the greedy billionaires keep all the money for themselves?

We need fair tax & do away with IRS, CPAs. Our economy would flourish. Because EVERYONE pays tax. It will never happen because wussy Congress won’t pass it.

Hey, I would just be happy if they would be in a tax bracket. If you think they should pay more that's up to you...

If they are not paying their taxes, the IRS would have prosecuted them. Are you saying they are doing something illegal and the IRS is letting them go? Or do you have proof that you are withholding from the authorities.

Produce your evidence for that. (I'll wait).

And exactly how are they not treated like everyone else? Please be specific.

Anyone who thinks the 'fair tax' is fair obviously knows nothing about the tax code.

But a simple question for any advocate of the 'fair tax' is what would be the 'fair tax rate'?

The best thing would be to do away with income tax and property tax also.
