I used to run late models and modifieds on va tracks. Langley, southside speedway, manassas, new river valley, south boston to name a few. I miss the hell out of it. Racing is as good as it gets at the local level

The stereotype still exists that racing is for mindless yokels. They dont know or consider how difficult it really is to win a race at any level. Even most who do watch dont understand much about the actual racecar and all its nuiances good and bad

The truth is that most of us do not get terribly excited about watching cars, horses, or dogs going round and round in circles. If it makes you happy that's all that counts. I, however, can think of better ways to waste a day, without having to breathe all that carbon monoxide.

.......and many other fathers asked their sons, "what the hell are you doing in the bathroom day and night? Why don't you get the hell out and give somebody else a chance?"

Racing is still alive and well in Europe. Indycar seems doomed. I went to the 500 this year. It did not come close to selling out. Nascar is doing good.

Although I have not attendd a car race, you need to keep up. It seems more then a few of the tracks viewing areas are now enclosed.

As to horse racing, watching thoroughbreds run is a beautiful sight, grace in motion.

To each their own. I did go to a horserace once at Hollywood Park. The focus was pretty much on gambling rather than the sheer joy of the sport.

At one time, horse racing had a headlock on gambling outside of Las Vegas. With the lottery and the arrival of the Indian casinos, people had a huge amount of options as to how they would lose their money.

Horse racing is no longer the grand sport it once was. Other than the 3 legs of the triple crown it barely shows up in the sports pages.

I have never wagered on a horse race. I do understand it was a big part in days past. There is still some, obviously, but not to the degree. Such is my perception.

I attend two legs of the Triple Crown. I never do the third.
