This is an old post
but it still applies to todays problems

Parkland Nemorial Hospital in Dallas,Texas is a famous institution for various reasons.
John F Kennedy expired there after being shot by Harvey Oswald
Lee Harvey Oswald died there shortly after.
Jack Ruby who shot Oswald died there a few years later.
On the flip side Parkland is also home to the second busiest maternity ward in the entire country.
With almost 16,000 babies arriving there each year.(that's almost 44 a day)EVERY DAY.
A survey indicated that 70 percent of the women who gave birth at Parkland in the first three months of 2006
.. were illegal immigrants (that was 2006,10 years ago).
That's 11,200 anchor babies born there every year, just in Dallas.
According to the survey the hospital spent 70.7 million dollars delivering babies in 2004.but managed to end up with almost 3 million in surplus funding.
medicare kicked in 34.5 million.Dallas tax payers added 31.3 million and the feds added another 9.5 million.

The average patient in the maternity ward at parkland was 25 years of age, married and giving birth to her second child. She was also an illegal alien.
By law pregnant women cant be denied medical care based on their ability to pay or their immigration status.
OK that's fine.
But should they receive more care than middle class Americans??
At parkland they do.
Parkland has 9 prenatal clinics.
A Dallas Morning News articlefollowed a Hispanic woman who was a patient at one of the clinics and was pregnant with her third child.(her previous two were also born at Parkland).
her first two deliveries cost her nothing, and the woman was grateful because the delivery in Mexico would have cost her 200 dollars .this time the hospital asked the woman to pay 10 dollars per visit at the clinic and 100 dollars for the delivery.
she said that she couldn't come up with that much money.
Not that it matters, the hospital could not refuse her.
(Wonder why they even asked)

How long has this been going on??
What are the long term effects??

Another subject of this article was born at Parkland in 1986,shortly after her mother illegally entered the USA.
Now she was having her third child there as well.
(that's right, she was an anchor baby a citizen of the USA.)
these women received free prenatal care including medications, birthing classes and child care classes.
they also got freebies such as car seats bottles, diapers, and formulae. Most of these things are available to legal citizens as well, but only for low income applicants and then the red tape is almost insurmountable.
The illegals did not have to provide identification and no proof of income .A citizen had to provide a ssc number which could show their annual income.
An illegal needs only to to claim to be poor and the hospital
must take their word as fact.
Parkland offers indigent care to Dallas Co citizens who earn less than 40,000 dollars a year. They have to proveThat they did not refuse health coverage at their work place.
Free natal care isn't so easy for US citizens.
There were about 140 patients who were billed roughly 4 million dollars for medical care.It turns out they did not qualify for free treatment ,because they lived outside of Dallas co.The hospital sued them.(Illegals got it free, but US citizens who lived outside of Dallas Co got sued!!)
As if that wasn't enough, illegal patients started complaining because not enough of the hospitals staff spoke Spanish.
In this AP story the author spoke with an illegal woman who was upset because she had to translate the comments of the hospital staff into Spanish for her husband.(also illegal). This was apparently a great injustice.
IN an attempt to create a Spanish speaking staff
Parkland started offering incentives(extra pay)to applicants who spoke Spanish. In addition medical students at the U of Texas Southern University for which Parkland was the training facility had to have a Spanish language requirement added to their already heavy study load.

Remember this is just one hospital in our country.there are hospitals all over our country that deal with this same problem.

Have you ever stood in a line at a check-out counter with a half-full basket, behind an overweight Hispanic woman with two overfilled baskets and watch as she paid for it with an EBT (Electronics Benefits Transfer) card and had to pay $60.00 for your half-full basket of groceries? I have.

Carol
I believe the border should be closed
We are a nation of immigrants
but legal immigrants
illegal immigrants should not be allowed to stay here
they are breaking the laws of the United States of America

of course I dunno who would mow our lawns if we shipped them out

An American mows my lawn. We pay him. Only time I see suspected illegals is when I shop for dog food and laundry detergent at Walmart. Sorry I got you mixed up. My most humble apologies. I totally agree with you about all illegals, no question about whether they’re illegal because if they’re here without consent they’re law breakers.
