That's right, Oxygen (O2). Everyone on the planet is addicted to it, to varying degrees, with folks living high on mountains being the lest addicted. When O2 supplies are ample, folks succumb to additional addictive substances, such as, water/snow skiing, running/jogging, BBQing, mass shooting and other self destructive substances.
When supplies of O2 are low, usually as a result of deforestation, pollution or political rallies, folks turn to more moderate addictive substances, such as, watching golf, reality TV, taking online courses or joining a book club. For people who try to quit, the withdrawal symptoms are severe, and the only known treatment is, ironically, more O2, thus continuing the deadly cycle.
If people would just stop breathing, things would begin to improve around here.
