Bill Clinton was elected governor, not dictator of Arkansas. Decisions about state flags are not made single handedly by governors.

Furthermore Arkansas has had its current state flag since 1912. There is no portion of it that contains the confederate battle flag.

It is composed of diamonds set into a blue semi-square positioned onto a red field. It doesn't exactly look like the state flag of Mississippi.

In 1923, the legislature added a fourth star, representing the Confederate States of America. This fourth star was originally placed so that there were two stars above the state name and two below; this was to include the Confederacy alongside Spain, France, and the United States. Since this disturbed the other two meanings of the original three stars, the legislature corrected this in 1924 by placing the Confederate star above "ARKANSAS" and the original three stars below it, as it is today.

As the GOP began taking the South away from the racist Democrats we saw state by state removing their confederate flags.

Vern, Mississippi is the only former state that has retained the confederate battle flag on its state flag (its in the upper left hand corner). None of the other southern states do so anymore.

Avoiding Mississippi is not hard. Most Americans have never visited there and a sizable number don't want to. It's not exactly a tourist hot spot.

As far as the Dixie flag being part of history...so was the swastika. Try flying that somewhere.

Of course I do. So do many others. Are you aware that there are many organizations that are boycotting Mississippi because they refuse to remove the confederacy symbol from their state flag???

Boycotts= lost conventions, lost tourism, lost dollars.

Flying the symbol of slavery (let's not kid ourselves about advancing southern "culture") is viewed by many as no better than flying the Swastika....The confederate battle flag to Black Americans is the symbol of slavery, lynchings, and segregated public facilities. It is a symbol of bigotry and hate.
********* br Of course I do. So do many others. Ar... (show quote)

Other than to a simpleton like you there is a huge difference between the swastika and the rebel flag. They ate complete opposites yo people w/ a brain. The swastika is a symbol of oppression, while the rebel flag is a symbol of those who would not be oppressed by rich industrialists, much as we are today, by this bank owned government.
.
If it is its only because the left has pushed this crap and manipulated an easily scared people. The confederate flag is a symbol of the oppressed against the same rich " do it our way or else " bastards you support.

You need to take a hard look at the agendas of your party, both past and present, and quite trying to change history to fit they're agendas.

All it shows is the stark divide in this country. Many from each side have decided the only way to be heard is to yell louder than the other. And it's very sad from three perspectives.

First, it should be noted each side of this shrill debate has legitimate arguments. There is a great deal of common sense left in America, but all we hear now are the extremes. Not productive.

Second, and most troubling to me, is we seem to have taken the eye off the ball. We face enormous challenges and the "just say no" stance will kill us...from both sides.

The third is the most dangerous, and for me (as a republican) the most important to counteract. It is the notion that the GOP can survive doing business as usual. It can't. You can't stop demographics. The warning signs are already there. Arizona's attempt at marginalizing gay people in a business environment was met with a swift corporate slap and backfired badly. Attempted voter ID laws in my home state of Pennsylvania backfired badly. They really pissed off a lot of people and (in my opinion) cost Romney the election by driving piles of people to the polls to spite the attempt. It is also why our GOP governor will lose his re-election. Medicaid adoption by many states has officially ended the debate about single payer systems...because now the majority is on single payer and there is no turning back. And the rest of states that refused are now all falling into line.

The clock is ticking. In order for the opinions of this important portion of the population to be impactful, compromise must start.

Being tone deaf is dangerous as Mr. Cruz will shortly learn with his astonishing gambit of trying to sell off federal lands. Suddenly another "rising star" will crash and burn, leaving corporate America to select their next set of cronies to do their bidding. It doesn't matter to them whether they come as a democrat or republican. Money talks...and we all lose.
All it shows is the stark divide in this country. ... (show quote)

Maybe had your people begun to arm themselves the moment Hitler started his anti Jew speeches they wouldn't have been led to slaughter so easily. Other than the Warsaw Ghetto there was no measurable events which showed Jews defended themselves. Learn from history son. It can teach you many things if you let it.

I'm not totally shocked. Germany and Italy were not the only nations that had jackbooted brownshirts. In this country they fly the confederate battle flag and open carry in restaurants.

I believe the word is "fascist".

I didn't bring it up...Two posters on this forum wished to see it happen...I'm curious how others feel...after two people, I figure it to be a legitimate question....if you don't like it ...ignore it

You can't do something like that. We would end up with Biden and the law says such things as assassination of government officials is illegal. Hell, killing in any style is illegal on all of us.

Since President Obama was elected no new major wars have been initiated. This is what the majority of Americans want and why we elected President Obama to be commander in chief. After the Bush-Cheney war crimes, the body bags coming home to Dover AFB, and the trashing of our treasury, the nation said enough to the chickenhawk war pimps who would bleed their fellow citizens dry to advance their defense stock portfolios (Cheney).

You want to spill blood? You put your own damn boots on the ground and sure as hell not those of your neighbors' children.

Go buy a one way ticket to Bagdad...Send us all a postcard. I hear Iraq is quite beautiful in the fall.

I agree. Assassination is out of the question. Impeach is needed but won't happen. Well, here I go again: let's get class, integrity, character and real leadership in :Carson. I never get negative remarks about him so I'd like to hear what others think. Now's the time to start thinking because I'm sure the Hillary machine and company is already planning '16 strategy.

You are more intelligent than to agree with the silly post from Brian. Come on. Since Obama was elected the PLANET is self destructing. Putin is running wild. Muslim Radicals stronger than ever.
