Peter when you read the entire speech Obama made, it was very well put and very well delivered. His words were worthy of praise from any American. It's unfortunate that it was edited in a way to show an extreme indifference to our way of life here in America. I will admit however that I bought it at first before I read other comments regarding the editing of that speech. The reason why I bought it was because I have read parts of his book and have heard many of his opinions and speeches and realize his policies including the radical czars he has placed in his cabinet. He has shown disdain for the average American and has sided with the idea that America has a dirty history and has been a great oppressor to the rest of the world.

America does have a dirty history but President Obama has sided with the people of this country. Let's not hide our heads in the sand and believe the BS that the intention of this country has only been for the good of others. Our school history books would like us to believe that untruth. Where money is involved, the politics changes.

Alicia you have bought into this conspiracy. Of course we have had to correct mistakes but overall our intentions and actions have been good. Obama has not sided with the people of this country. I see you support the changing of our history books to show a skewed perspective.

Sorry Kirk, but our intentions and actions have not been good. In every war there have always been the economic and political decisions made. In every war the cause has always been either religion or greed. The USA is not exempt from that. I have read further than grammar school and high school history books.

Why don't you look up the real beginnings of this nation re: the Natives. The expansion of this nation was based on greed. In particular, study the truces the American Government made with the Natives and see how they lived up to them. Every one was broken - and not by the Natives. The European settlers were much better schooled in deception.

I have to disagree. There are many factors that play into the decisions that were and are made even today. It's not black and white. But it's getting very tiring to hear the constant attack and criticism regarding our past. Not to say we were perfectly innocent. No nation is. Even Obama is having a very hard time finding the truth when it comes to conflicts. But our universities, the same ones he attended are very biased against America's history. I have personally watched footage of professors spewing that ignorant message. Even here in California USC. The truth is probably somewhere in the middle. But overall America has been good.

I beg to differ with you. The only reason America is not quite as dirty in their history is that this is still a young country.

I do recommend "God is Red" by Vine Delorio. Better if you can get the first version (before he had to remove some of the emotion). I borrowed mine from the library and had great difficulty in locating another. Did look into the 2nd printing to compare them and found it was terribly lacking. The first is a small-sized book with a red cover. I don't thiink it was ever printed in paperback. I'm sure Ve'Hoe would also be interested in this book.

I will say that the history course I attended in college was much more realistic - not so pretty. I am not condemning this nation but to truly do dislike painting a pretty picture over the reality. I was advised by a history professor to look into a biography of Napoleon written by a Frenchman. Quite a difference from the story we'd been taught. Also, look at the history of Hawaii. They never elected to become a state in this union.
