The Supreme Court was established in 1789 with six Justices. President John Adams reduced it to five but President Jefferson put it back to six and then in 1807 added one more making seven Justices. In 1863 a 10th Circuit was added and so another Justice was added. Congress passed legislation in 1866 to reduce the Court to seven. In 1869 Congress put the number at nine. In 1937 Roosevelt tried to add two new Justices but failed. It seems that some previous Presidents have tried to either pack the court or make it difficult for incoming presidents to work with the court. Seems like Washington is a curse on weak people. The incompetent ones go there and stay for life swilling at the trough of citizen taxes paying them. The good ones go and serve a term or two then move on to make their marks in other pursuits which benefit all the citizens of this country. Seems like nine has been a workable number for well over a century so why change it? In my life I have observed also that some of the appointees by Presidents have voted differently than I suspect the President expected.

Judges are screaming for more judges.
It is both Legal and Constitutional to expand the Courts.
Impeachment of judges is possible-as is moving them to lower courts.
So things are more flexible than you think.

Since the day Amy Coney Barrett was nominated to a seat on the SCOTUS bench, the controversy of presidential nominations in an election year immediately arose.

All it took was a little bit of honest research to find out that twenty-nine times in American history there has been an open Supreme Court vacancy in a presidential election year, or in a lame-duck session (post-election) before the next presidential inauguration. (This counts vacancies created by new seats on the Court, but not vacancies for which there was a nomination already pending when the year began, such as happened in 1835–36 and 1987–88.) The president made a nomination in all twenty-nine cases. George Washington did it three times. John Adams did it. Thomas Jefferson did it. Abraham Lincoln did it. Ulysses S. Grant did it. Franklin D. Roosevelt did it. Dwight Eisenhower did it. Barack Obama, of course, did it. Twenty-two of the 44 men to hold the office faced this situation, and all twenty-two made the decision to send up a nomination, whether or not they had the votes in the Senate.

I can guarantee Justice Amy Coney Barrett is a loving and patriotic American, and as an Associate Justice she will be a profound influence in getting People's Supreme Court restored to its original purpose.
