Weapons of math destruction

My State has averaged 750 new corona cases per day for the last 21 days. Normal math would put the total at 15,750 for that period, but does not include cases from prior periods that are still active.

My State claims 6,697 total cases as of today. Either State officials are sitting on a secret cure for covid19, or they failed kindergarten math. The true total is unknown, because, well...................I guess it's a State secret.

Surely some have recovered?

Or perhaps they were counting positive tests... A patient who is already infected will continue to test positive until he recovers.... Which requires constant testing to be sure...

Or perhaps they are only counting hospitalizations in their total?

Odd how a nation that noasts of its transparency and condemns others for their lack thereof constantly runs into these transparency issues

Either that or we have a bureaucratic army of math, reality and veracity challenged retards.
Personally, I have always felt that bureaucrats gravitate toward that field because there were too many big words on the Burger King job application.

They are probably using a probability produced number based on testing per day (that is, if you are sick enough to get a test then, well, it is assumed you have C-19). Automotive companies project their daily sales the same way and just correct the mismatch at the end of every month.

I would argue that they don't have much choice to do it this way. Hospitals can stay alerted to possible overcapacity in areas so they can reject patients were push them to a hospital down the road.
