I can not believe their consideration to apologize for slavery. Blacks are not the only slaves that existed. I am Cherokee and don't hold all whites responsible for indian deaths and land stolen. That is history. Blacks have used slavey as an excuse for their living standards. They love to talk about segregation but they maintain Miss Black America, united neuro college fund, Nancy, and the list goes on. None of them today knows a slave personally, it is past history. They want what we have worked for and earned without doing what is necessary to achieve those items. I saw today our universities want to grade blacks on a different scale. What about those blacks who have achieved status based on common grading? Example, Ben Carson. Until the blacks change the attitude of being a victim and pursue improving themselves this won't change. Lookin at the repatriation look at what has-been done in welfare over the years. How much has been spent there with little or no results. You do not have to feel guilty about the color of your skin. You can't legislate peoples thinkig.

Wow! You said it like it is. It’s not the skin color, it’s the attitude. Giving blacks a different standard at college is how the public school system has been destroyed.
Standards have been brought down to another level to give the blacks a better chance at better grades. That doesn’t educate, that denigrates. I don’t owe them anything that I haven’t already paid in tax money for welfare and food stamps, etc. while we work and they hang back and produce...more babies for us to house and feed.

I have a great suggestion for a read, for you. It’s not new at all, really. It was written by Dr Thomas Sowell back in 1970. Unfortunately, the recently digitized version in the link from the NYT is nearly illegible, so I’ve added a screenshot of the original article, in hope it helps you track down a better text.

Another great read...

It's at least semi-amazing to find a column like that at NYT.

What both this thread and your linked articles describe is more evidence of the ultimately destructive influence of the left's brand of thinking on our society.

First things first before reperations. .....we need to determine what African tribe they came from, blacks were chasing down blacks to sell into slavery...one would think the black would want reparations from them first...they started that ball rolling form a few hundred years......catchers and sellers should not be eligible ( nor should the caught ) weird how that part of history is never talked about....just gimme, gimme, gimme.

It was published in 1970. Dr Sowell's take on things is no longer considered woke enough for the hand-wringing hanky-stomping, thumbsuckers at the NY Times. He is probably smarter than their aggregate IQ.

I agree. He’s a remarkable man with a great deal of knowledge with respect to society as well as economics.

Agreed.

Though it's surprising that the portsiders at NYT haven't purged that kind of thinking from their archives.

I've been a fan of Dr. Sowell for years. He's currently 90 years old, which is probably why he doesn't seem to be writing columns anymore. I still look for them at the opinion sites I visit, but haven't seen any in awhile.

Well I’m no kid, but I plan to keep his columns circulating as long as I can

Reparations were given when slaves were freed.some ancestors of former slaves still to this day hold land on islands off South Carolinas coast.enough is enough.Paying again wont stop the blacks. Some will never be satisified always wanting more and more.
