Because we are E Pluribus Unum (out of many, one). We don't segregate (although many people tend to do that anyway). Universities are reverting to segregation by the demands from Black Student Unions and other organizations wanting separate dorms of their own. The United States is the greatest country in the world because everyone is welcomed if they are willing to assimilate. Native Americans were already here first. Everyone else who came later knew what the game was. People are allowed to move freely.

I personally think there has been great strides in racial equality over the last 70 years. We aren’t there yet, but we got to keep working. Kinda my point to this thread. Screaming white privilege is not a solution. Claims of the USA's original sin of slavery is not the solution. Screams of racism by anyone who happens to be white is not a solution. Screams of institutional or systematic racism is not a solution. Restitution is not a solution. Segregation into a separate area is not the solution. Minority rule of minority communities doesn't seem to a solution. Blaming and abolishing police is not a solution. Violence, burning and looting their communities is not a solution. There is really only one solution. But, what are these protesters proposing is a solution? What changes do these people think is gonna happen?

You left out Minneapolis. Corruption comes and goes depending on the leadership and whether we turn a blind eye to it, or not. LAPD was a corrupt department before WWII. After Chief Parker came in, he cleaned up the department and greatly improved not only its image but its actual operations. Subsequent Chiefs and Politicians have let it slip back and were themselves partly responsible for the disintegration of ethics on the job. I'm not going to delve into the entire history which would take days to cover. What I will say is that if you feel the departments are corrupt, and you are young and so motivated to reform these organizations, then become a law enforcement officer yourself and do it from within. There will always be bad apples in any bunch but we can minimize them by selecting people to fill positions by using higher hiring standards and continued meaningful training; not some bogus hocus-pocus charlatan who only gives a lecture or two about sexism or racism, etc.

Why repeat something that didn't work the first time around. At least as I read about it, the poor schools, homes needing upgrades, and alcoholism, and diabeties are confined on the reservations. New hud housing in other sectors of the country with access to multiple doctors on the taxpayers' dime is better, and so is access to equality in schools. Affirmative action on jobs and special concessions on college entry are perks not afforded to the Indian nations on those reservations. Just how many high paying jobs are there on reservations? I don't know, do you?

At least the wealthy confine themselves behind gates with the monies obtained from the sweat of workers from all walks of life. <snark>

Why are the riots happening in the neighborhoods where the working poor have tried to make something of themselves? Why are paid troublemakers targeting the less affluent neighborhoods? Who's going after the land? Has anyone checked out the planning boards and commissioners' agendas?

If someone is so concerned about helping anyone, why do they think violence and destruction is the way? Oh, yes, that's right, the residents will be better off when they move out of those areas. Have you ever looked at pictures of destroyed areas?
No one, in any time, place, or period of history has benefited by riots or war in their neighborhoods. No one wins a war! The poor always suffer, the rich can run out of harm's way. Who wants the land where these riot's are happening?

You think they're overdoing it with the call of everyone on the Planet being a "racist". Do you really think this would help. IMHO, not in a million years. You know there are a lot of great, smart black people in this country. I say get with them and iron this thing out. Ask 'what can we do to obtain 'racial harmony'? We've made a lot of progress in the last 60 years, but we need to do more. Try to weed out those who are not interested but want the whole enchilada. And I mean by that, not interested in any compromises. Get rid of those promoting a civil war.

I suggest you go to one of those police training centers, and walk through the simulator, and see how you do. I did, it was almost unnerving. These guys need to make split second decisions, and if it's your life or mine?? So easy to judge the actions of the Police, without having walked a mile in their shoes. There are bad cops. I'm still not sure why anyone would want to be one, especially in this day and age. Most cops are good people who protect and serve. So my advice to everyone, don't break the law, and your chances of living increase dramatically!!
