The citizenship question recurred multiple times from 1820 to 1890. And from 1890 to 1950, it appeared on every census. Since then, it has been included on every long-form census questionnaire from 1970 to 2000. To this day, the question is still asked on the American Community Survey, an annual supplement to the decennial census. The citizenship question is not a new concept; it is the restoration of common sense. The usurper removed the question in 2010? Why?

Obama asked that it be removed.

Non citizens should not count in determining congressional representation and financial benefits.

typical right wing lies.

The census has been conducted every decade since 1790 to get a national head count used most critically to decide the distribution of congressional representation. At first it was conducted by U.S. marshals, but later surveys were sent to most American households, with census workers helping those who didn't promptly return their surveys.
The last time a citizenship question was among the census questions for all U.S. households was in 1950. That form asked where each person was born and in a follow-up question asked, "If foreign born — Is he naturalized?"
In 1960, there was no such question about citizenship, only about place of birth.

Lonewolf...

Article 1 Section 2 The US Constitution sets-up the taking of a Census every 10 years, and the 14th Amendment Section 2 states: "... The actual Enumeration shall be made within three Years after the first Meeting of the Congress of the United States, and within every subsequent Term of ten Years, in such Manner as they shall by Law direct..."

This is how Congress had the Citizenship question as part of the Census, on and off, until Pres Obama asked Congress to eliminate the Citizenship question, and they did...

So, until Congress passes the inclusion of the Citizenship question, and the sitting President signs it into Law,
there will not be any such question on any Federal 10 Year Census...

And, the language used in the US Constitution and its Amendments does not specifically state the number of State Representatives or Presidential Electoral Delegates should be based on only Citizens, so only the full number of everyone living within a State must be used for Federal Elections until an Amendment is passed and Ratified stipulating Representation and Electorates must be based solely on US Citizenship...

For once you aren't off on some wild fantasy. Primarily, I agree with you. So far.

The original purpose of the census is to establish government representation in Congress. And those state wide numbers are used by the states to set up their districts for state representation.

We now have all sorts of money going to the states from the Federal Government, based on population. Fair distribution to help states aid their citizens with various services on an equal basis.

So, getting an accurate head count is vital for government representation and financial services and aide to the states. But the census is filled with a lot of other questions of vital importance to seeing where the country is. It is also a great time to take advantage of contacting everyone for a variety of other issues. Children of school age? Seniors in a household? Sex of people in the household, Male? Female? Not sure (you got to be kidding me)? Dependents in a household? College students at home? away? Where? Rent? Own? Condo? Stand alone home? Indoor plumbing? Gas heat? Electric Heat? Solar? Other? Car in family? Owned? Leased? I could go on and on. I haven't seen the census form yet, so I don't know what is on it.

But what I do know is that the Democrats forced the removal of the second most important category after pure numbers of household, is whether you are a citizen. The question planned was just five categories: Three categories apply to people who are U.S. citizens at birth: born in the U.S., born in a U.S. territory, or born abroad with at least one U.S. citizen parent. People who say they are a naturalized U.S. citizen are asked for their naturalization year. The fifth category is “not a U.S. citizen.” The survey does not ask whether non-citizens are legally in the country. There is no justifiable fear in answering that question for illegal and legal immigrants residing in the country. NONE.

I would have also added, are you here legally? If so, are you in the process of getting naturalized? Tourist? guest worker? Student? Other? ________. If illegal, why? Expired Visa, _______. applying for Asylum.

I would also like to find out who are Americans not residing in America. Students? Guest Workers/ Military on duty? Peace Corps? Retired? etc.

It is very important to know who these people are as we move forward and make laws affecting them and how they affect us. Citizens or non citizens, here or abroad.

Because this vital information is not appearing on the census, I for one will not fill out the whole census. I will only give my name and number in my household. And the Democrats can stuff it.

Why do liberals keep tripping over these facts! Congressional Districts should represent the American Citizen especially when it comes to General elections!

Except that isn’t what the Constitution says. It is very clear that the census is to count people living in each district, period. I always thought conservatives were very strict about following the Constitution.

I agree. I was working on what is. And that was a good part of why I wrote. It should be, and we need to have those numbers and make laws to enforce them.
