Hi All, I have spent the last couple weeks poking libs in the eye, and damn, it's been fun. Not so much out of spite or disrespect, but to give them what I feel is a little bit of their own medicine. I feel like I (and others of my political bent) have been portrayed as racists and bigots and homophobes. I feel like the truth is something different. I really don't care about your skin color, your religion, your ethnicity, or your sexual proclivities. I DO care about whether or not you're an asshole. I think that too many people on the left DO care about whether a person is black or gay or Catholic or Jewish or Muslim or atheist. I don't.

All that being said, I want to talk about the people I hold in VERY high regard, medium high regard, and in low regard. Not in my personal circle of friends, but those in the popular culture or in the historical sense. Three people come to mind. Walter E. Williams, Thomas Sowell, and Ayn Rand. Adam Smith, Alexis de Tocqueville, Thomas Aquinas, Robert Heinlein, Aristotle, Frank Yerby, Isaac Asimov and Madalyn O'Hair are in the second tier. You might notice that blacks, women, Jews, immigrants, the religious and non religious, dot the realm of the people I love. Regular old white guys are a small percentage, comparatively speaking.

Some of the people I philosophically despise include Karl Marx, Hitler, Stalin, Mao, 10 or so presidents, all but two of the Democrat candidates, and anyone who INITIATES violence. Now, what ignited this diatribe? I have been listening for three months (more or less) a year to Rush Limbaugh for thirty years. I am off work in the winter, and until recently I spent that time off in my wood-shop in my basement. Days off were also spent with headphones on and wood-tools in my hand. I don't agree with everything that Rush said (about 80%) but the man informed in a way that didn't exist before him. He was an awakening for me. I didn't understand the conservative mindset before he came on the air. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a dyed in the wool conservative. I don't like our huge military, the fact we are in 130 countries, our national debt, and a few other things he seemingly has no problem with. But he has been an informative asset in the national picture for almost a third of the existence of radio. He's convinced me of the error of my thoughts in a number of issues, including abortion. All this he has done with humor, dignity and a respect for the sensibilities of his audience AND his detractors. I can't tell you how distressed I was on hearing he was perhaps suffering from a potentially fatal illness. His gentle spanking of those on the left has been a source of humor and satisfaction for me for decades. He has said many times that it takes six weeks to get the joke that is his shtick. I have to tell you, it took me two days. If he survives this, I will feel elated. If not, I may very well be brought to tears. Those that know me, know that doesn't come easy. His loss will be a loss for America. I always wondered what his retirement would mean to me. His death would be an incalculable event. Please Rush, spend your last nickle getting well. I am so sad that you never reproduced, Your child would have been a gift.

One of my Lt's in the Air Force turned me onto Rush. Must have been in 93. Been a fan ever since. I even went to Cape Girardeau, MO. once but that was before Rush joined the national spotlight. Might have been during his CA. radio days. I thought he was funny, brilliant, and mostly over the target every show I listened to. He's a national treasure in my book.

My guess is that you have not read anything that she wrote. I don't agree with much of what Madalyn said. For one thing, she was a socialist and I find that appalling. It's one of the reasons she is in the second tier of people who influenced me. My atheist friends would probably disdain my inclusion of Thomas Aquinas. You and I will probably disagree on whether or not there should be organized prayer in public schools. I don't think there should be. Most of the other authors I mentioned were not religious either, but I am also guessing you haven't read them either. I actually met her before she was murdered. You might want to spend some spare time watching her on YouTube on the Phil Donahue Show (she was his first guest ever). Ayn Rand (another atheist) was also a guest and was well worth watching. Please try not to judge her on what others have said about her. Judge for yourself. Let me know which (if any) of the aforementioned authors you have sampled.

Hi, Matthew...My apologies, I haven't seen or read any of your posts. But I am of the same respect and obligation to El Rushmo.
The unfettered hatred and blind ignorance of his abilities is, in my opinion, caused by the lack of an opposing voice.
The left doesn't have a Rush Limbaugh.
I've mentioned this before on this site and was told "msnbc" , or "cnn"... Please.
There are some liberal voices on-line, but they are down dark alleys and obscure basements.
Rush is right there on my a.m. dial ( seek ? )
And has been with me as I worked for thirty years.
My Conservative values are inherent ; Limbaugh has enriched, and sharpened them. He has taught me how to stand my ground in a debate / argument.
Thank you for your post.

Very well stated but I have been diagnosed twice with ling cancer and both times it turned out to be double pneumonia. I have even gone through lung surgery and it turned out to be double pneumonia, I have had one oncologist tell me that there was no chance of me living and it turned out to be double pneumonia so there is always hope. Hang in there and pray for Rush.

Thanks for that info Bahmer. First ray of hope I've heard on one of my many heroes. You've been in my prayers for your lungs for a long time now. Have you ever been caught in a blizzard or something or have you always been susceptible to problems with pneumonia since childhood? Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers friend.
