You wouldn't be "replacing" Oscar, Emily. A new little dog would simply add to the joy that Oscar brought you. When you're ready. You'll know.

I can't hear his little toenails clacking on the tile floor. I can't hear him lapping at the water dish. He didn't come in the living room to lick my fingers after dinner. The back porch has 4 inches of snow without his paw prints. His dish is empty. His leash too. His shampoo, bones, toys, vitamins, his bed, bag of treats, all speak of his gone-ness. I think I will miss most of all his quiet stare as I make my way around the room doing this and that. His focus on ME....I felt so special!

Be there for him when he goes! Love on him and tell him how much you love him!

All our thoughts are with you Emily. You'll find a replacement in due time...šŸ‘

If you have never seen this - its very good.

God Summoned a Beast (author unknown)

God summoned the beast from the field and He said
"Behold, man is created in my image. Therefore adore him.
You shall protect him in the wilderness,
shepherd his flocks, watch over his children,
accompany him wherever he may go...
even into civilization.
You shall be his companion, his ally, his slave."

"To do these things," God said, "I endow you with the
instincts uncommon to other beasts:
Faithfulness, Devotion and Understanding
surpassing those of man himself.
Lest it impair your courage,
you shall never foresee your death.
Lest it impair your loyalty,
you shall be blind to the faults of man.
Lest it impair your understanding,
you are denied the power of words.
Speak to your master only with your mind
and through your honest eyes."

"Walk by his side; sleep in his doorway;
ward off his enemies; carry his burden;
share his afflictions; love and comfort him.
And in return for this,
Man will fulfill your needs and wants...
which shall be only food, shelter and affection."

"So be silent and be a friend to man.
Guide him through the perils along the way
to this land I have promised him.
This shall be your destiny and your immortality."

So spoke the Lord.
And the dog heard, and was content.

No, I've never seen that - it is beautiful....and very comforting. I printed it out and am going to find a nice frame for it. Thanks so much, Rose.

Excellent. I haven't seen that in a while, and it is good to read it again.

I just don't see us without him in our lives. This is rather sudden.

Thanks JW, that means a lot. The little guy almost threw himself upside down whenever we came home. Unconditional love is something I'm learning about now. Who knew it would take a dog to finally teach me about that!

EmilyD, don't wait too long to get another "puppy". It'll keep your mind off of your Buddy with it's antics. My condolences. Merry Christmas and a bright and successful New Year. Mike

Thank you Mike. We've already talked a little about rescuing a dog...maybe an older one that wouldn't outlive us.

Thank you badbobby. Those are very comforting words, and a nice thing to think about when I feel sad.
