Let the facts speak for themselves

Sorry, I couldn't resist a comical title for this post. We haven't let the facts speak in, well, forever. It has forever irritated me to see talking heads explain what I'm about to hear in a SOTU address, then after listening to the SOTU speech, explain to me what I just heard - as though the President was speaking in a language I didn't know. That's just one example of not letting the facts do any speaking.

This buffoonery is very much in our faces right now, with the multiple scenarios being offered in the impeachment business. We treat facts like a menu, we pick what we want to consume and ignore the rest, then become angry when others pick different menu items. We reject facts that don't line up with what we want to be true, and if we can't find enough facts to prove our beliefs, hell, we'll just invent some.

We will NOT let the facts speak for themselves, because people might not see what we want them to see. What we do, is to interpret those facts - as thought they're in some sort of code. We do it, media types do it, businesses do it and the Lord knows, that's the stock in trade of the politician.

If we ever kept our mouths shut long enough for the facts to get a word in edgewise, we'd be shocked at what we'd learn. Personally, I don't need anyone to interpret stuff for me................English is my first language.
