How do you feel about "universal gun registration"?
"You kool-aid-drinking Obamite scourge of the earth, how dare you invade my personal space with this Nazi-socilaist nonsense?"

Do you believe that any gun-control is an infringement on the 2nd Amendment?
"If you were a frkn American instead of a Muslim-loving fag that question would never occur to you. They are coming to take our guns, like Nazi Germany! Wake up, you rubber-stamping creep of socialism."

What about a two-week waiting period after a background check?
"Background check? You idiot! Are you getting an Alinsky grant? All reasonable and polite in this discussion--just like Alinsky trained you. In two weeks your Russian-Muslim manned black helicopters will have killed all resistance to Obama's socialist takeover. Get stuffed!"

Should regular citizens own any type of weapon, as well as extended magazines?
"The government is the enemy. We will start and end every election with 2nd Amendment resolutions. Mortars, tanks, and every means of defense against Fema and the other Obama cadre is our inalienable right."

Rumitoid, I think these responses to these questions meets the standard of PARANOID-BAT SHIT CRAZY. This is what happens to folks who watch too much Fox News and listen to too much Rush Limbaugh, Michael Savage, and Mark Levin.

The mentally ill are already denied the right to purchase firearms. Just what criteria would you use to determine sanity? Currently, it requires at least one medical professional, a judge and a day in court, so the accused can offer mitigating or conflicting testimony if any is available. I suppose you have a better idea. I'm all eyes, type away.

Without a requirement for background checks precluded from owning them or not the mentally ill can currently purchase firearms. This could be rectified by requiring a background check to transfer any firearm.

Maybe we should ban liberals from guns, since most of the serial killers, college shooters are liberal. But then if mental illness is the criteria, then most liberals won't be able to purchase guns
Actually give the government an inch and they will take ten miles, pass more laws against the mental, and soon anyone they don't want to have a gun, will be deemed mentally ill. There are already laws prohibiting the mental ill, so why pass a Bill unless it is planned to be abused.

This requirement is already in effect for all licensed dealers. Since much of the fuss appears to be about those evil so-called"assault weapons," and since, according to FBI and DOJ statistics, more people are killed with knives, with clubs, and with bare hands and feet than with these firearms, perhaps a background check before anyone is allowed to possess any of these things is in order. You should read the FBI statistics. They bear out statistics published by Eric Holder's own DOJ, which, in spite of his claims to the contrary, and in spite of all the publicity these mass shootings receive, show that the number of murders in the US by firearms has decreased by about half in the past 20 years. Apparently, the "more guns=more crime crowd got their numbers mixed up. In spite of a large population increase, and a HUGE increase in the number of privately owned firearms and carry permits, the gun murder rate continues to decrease. The Center For Disease Control, hardly a friend of gun owners, has recently conducted a study which concludes that none of the proposed new gun control laws, and almost none of the ones currently in effect, has, or will have any noticeable effect on crime.

One question the pro-gun control crowd studiously ignores: What makes you think the Federal Government can make this work? Perhaps you can think of any sort of Federal project that did what it was supposed to, when it was supposed to, and cost what it was supposed to? In theory, certain types of gun control will work. Then reality intrudes. More than 70,000 people were caught by background checks in one year recently, I believe it was 2011. Less than 100 were prosecuted. Less than 30 were convicted. This is the reality of Federal Gun Control. Need I mention "Fast and Furious?" Not one single agent has been charged with anything other than the most minor infractions. 2500 firearms "lost," and no one is guilty. You would have strict gun control administered by an Agency which is notorious for flaunting, rather than enforcing the law. They commit more crimes than the prosecute. Although I have posted it more than once, if you wish, I will provide a link detailing page after page of BATFE abuses. Not one of which ever resulted in any punishment. This is who you would have in charge of part of our Bill of Rights.

You forgot a key clause linked to "shall not infringe ". This is that pesky little phrase " a well regulated militia being necessary".

Former Justice, John Paul Stevens has campaigned strongly for the legal recognition of that phrase. He points out, astutely, that we have not had those militias since the civil war.

Of course our president and the Dept. of Justice should not "infringe" on the rights of those long defunct militias.

Infringing on the so called "rights", of private citizens, who get off on carrying easily concealable handguns and assault rifles......that's a whole different story.

There are far more militias than you would care to believe, and since a persons private life, is private its none of the governments business who is involved in militias.
Also it was private citizens with guns, that formed militias. Can't form militias without citizens with guns

A person's private life is none of the government's business? Try telling that to a pit bull owner, whose vicious dog, kills a toddler that has wandered onto their front lawn.

Justice Stevens makes a stronger argument than you do. I am rooting for our commander-in-chief to vastly reduce our ridiculously high gun death rate. Kudos to President Obama.
