We really need to stop using the phrase "quid pro quo" as it is in some foreign language and unAmerican. American lawmakers and citizens can't be expected to understand what such a thing could even mean!

So. Let's use the real All-American phrase that this Administration knows well and has made popular ... let's call it what it is...

A DEAL!

People are so willfully ignorant of how international relations work. Forget the upfront stuff for the media. The real foreign relations takes place behind the scenes with deal making.

The term shakedown is being well used...

It was all serving Putin's interests, imagine the damage US high tech anti tank weapons would have done to Russian tanks that weren't supposed to even be there. Trump obstructed military aid to the Ukraine for some time, and when congress acted he continued to keep US weapons from being used against Russian mercenaries or whatever they were.

Was your laughter do to content or language use issues?

The part of the deal that was not reasonable was to withhold military aid that had been done by the house and senate because of the dire need to help out against Russian invasion, for reasons that had nothing to do with Trump's agenda which had nothing to do with US interests. There were other Ukraine corruption issues far greater than Biden's son, but none were of concern to Trump and Putin.

If Trump had a legitimate concern it should have been addressed through official channels, not through an off the record power play with Trump's personal attorney who had no business even being there...

and by the way, who was paying for the jets Giuliani was jetting around the globe in, as he did Trump's business as his personal attorney?

There was no legitimate deal that was okay as far as withholding military support to the Ukraine, and the $400 million involved was not Trump's to negotiate anything with. It was authorized by the house and senate as a matter of high urgency to help fight off Russian invasion, the state department and pentagon were doing their part and Trump personally blocked it for reasons that have no official legitimacy. He caused a delay that allowed Putin to invade part of the Ukraine, and he better have better reasons than he did for doing that.

Do you think Putin would have been happy with Trump if US anti tank weapons hammered his tanks?

Trump is responsible for turning the tide on the Ukraine fighting the Russians off. The country, our best interests, were best served by helping the Ukraine, not interfering with them defending themselves against Russia. Trump has a different agenda than the country wants when there are conflicts with Russia, which this was and is.

One more ally Trump has betrayed on behalf of Russian interests, you are blind if you can't see a pattern.

the appropriate words for your inability to grasp facts that can't be denied is willful ignorance, anyone with a brain can understand what Trump's withholding timely military aid did for Russia as far as taking over the eastern ukraine. If you read what I wrote it might seem indisputable.

CORRUPT AND WILLFUL ignorance, when consciously verbalized, has an English word as well.

Trump defies Putin with arms to Ukraine

In the annals of President Donald Trumpā€™s odd dealings with Russiaā€™s Vladimir Putin, give Trump credit for making a straightforward decision to defy Putin by supplying arms to Ukraine.

The State Department says the U.S. will provide Ukraine with ā€œenhanced defensive capabilitiesā€ to protect itself against Russia-backed separatists in eastern Ukraine. What this means, according to news reports, is that the U.S. is finally prepared to help Ukraineā€™s military punch back in a murky conflict cooked up by Putin. American weapons going to Ukraine will include Javelin anti-tank missiles and sniper rifles.

Putin is the scheming villain responsible for splintering Ukraine as part of his ambition to reassert Russian power. In 2014, he waltzed into Crimea (there is no better verb to describe his actions). Putin seized and annexed that vital region of Ukraine in the wake of Ukrainian political upheaval. He followed up by orchestrating the uprising in eastern Ukraine, intentionally destabilizing a country that had dreams of joining the European Union and NATO.

President Barack Obama imposed sanctions on Russia but did little else after Putin took the Crimean Peninsula in what was the first big European land grab since World War II. Obama decided that providing lethal weapons to Ukraine would accomplish little but antagonize Putin. Yet refusing to arm Ukraine had the opposite effect: It emboldened Putin. Obamaā€™s hesitance is one reason why Russia-backed rebels control eastern Ukraine today.

Yeah, but with this one, the deal was already made and Congress has already appropriated the money.
