Chester Arthur Burnett (June 10, 1910 – January 10, 1976), known as Howlin' Wolf, was a Chicago blues singer, guitarist, and harmonica player, originally from Mississippi. With a booming voice and imposing physical presence, he is one of the best-known Chicago blues artists. The musician and critic Cub Koda noted, "no one could match Howlin' Wolf for the singular ability to rock the house down to the foundation while simultaneously scaring its patrons out of its wits."[1] Producer Sam Phillips recalled, "When I heard Howlin' Wolf, I said, 'This is for me. This is where the soul of man never dies.'"[2] Several of his songs, including "Smokestack Lightnin'", "Killing Floor" and "Spoonful", have become blues and blues-rock standards. In 2011, Rolling Stone magazine ranked him number 54 on its list of the "100 Greatest Artists of All Time"

Love the Delta Blues. Can spend hours on youtube listening and trying to go back as far as possible. There are jam sessions with BB, Stevie Ray, Clapton, Hooker and more. The Delta, Folk and Gospel is where our music came from. I have been to the Cross Roads, where Robert Johnston sold his soul. His recordings are on youtube.

Good stuff. I guess growing up in the south in the sixties isolated from the outside world in a small town shaped my life. It was a hard simple life. Centered on family, church and survival. From raising a garden and tending the livestock for our food and of course there were the cotton fields. We always hoed and picked on one side of the field, the black folk on the other. I could hear them singing and remember how the rhythm would uplift me and take my mind off the work. When your ten years old it leaves an impression. Made me understand that we are the same and at that time we were all poor.
