There is a story in Hebrew tradition that tells the story of a man seeking paradise. Jesus asks him one question: :"Did you know joy?" "Oh, yes," he responds, "many times." Jesus asks the next in line the same question. "No, lord," he answers, "how could I with so many lost souls and my nation so sinful. I had no rest."
Christ asks the next in line the same question. "In your service dear God," he says, "I have devoted my entire life to preaching your Gospel and bringing souls to your kingdom, and it has often been a hard journey. The Democrats have made it tough." Jesus looks at Peter, the Gate-keeper, an eye that is meant to ask what do you think of these three? Peter shrugs.
Jesus says, "Two of you have missed the point of my Gospel. The glory of God is joy in this life, no matter what the conditions. That is what is all required of his servants." Peace and stillness in the Lord: the rest is ego, madness, or politics.

And that makes us all very different.

Thanks for bringing politics into something that wasn't really political and sorta getting back to the point.
No matter how bad things get we can always make them worse...or better, like Tommy Franklin, who in the end just wanted to express his Joy in being alive and share that Joy with anyone not too spiritually constipated to hear it.
We are really not that different.

Oh?
There's only one difference I see and all other differences arise from the one.
Sometimes we're obedient and sometimes we're not...all of us.
Did you get
anything from Tommy Franklin other than a denial we're the same?
That seems sad, to me.
You get it Paul and I appreciate that.
The Bible says none of us are righteous but that doesn't mean we can't improve.
Tommy and his folks get it too.

Reality is often laced with sadness.
We act according to our worldviews. Our worldviews manifest themselves in the worlds we create for ourselves. Most people can acknowledge those differences. Those who cannot, those Pollyannaish, castle-in-the-clouds believers in unreality keep promoting BS that keeps us perpetually in a state of disappointment and despair over yet another human shortcoming.
We are what we are in all aspects of our lives. Ignoring that is foolhardy. Promoting it is condemnable.
What I got from him was one more Hallmark get well card.
