Obama: “No Apologies” for Bergdahl Swap

by Keith Koffler on June 5, 2014, 10:59 am

A defiant President Obama today said he is making no apologies for arranging the release of Sgt. Bowe Berdahl by freeing five bloodthirsty Taliban leaders who may soon be working on plans to attack American soldiers.

Speaking at a press conference in Brussels today with British Prime Minister David Cameron, Obama claimed he was right to act – and to act fast, without telling Congress.

We had a prisoner of war whose health had deteriorated and we were deeply concerned about and we saw that we had an opportunity and we seized it and I make no apologies for that . . .

But because of the nature of the folks we were dealing with and the fragile nature of these negotiations, we felt it was important to go ahead and do what we did. And we’re now explaining to Congress the details of how to move forward.

Obama suggested that the matter had become personal to him, saying Bergdahl is “somebody’s child” and noting the letters he has to write to the parents of the fallen.

I make absolutely no apologies for making sure that we get back a young man to his parents and that the American people understand that this is somebody’s child. And that we don’t condition whether or not we make the effort to try to get them back . . .

You have a couple of parents whose kid volunteered to fight in a distant land who they hadn’t seen in five years and they didn’t know if they would ever see again . . .

I write too many letters to folks who unfortunately don’t see their children again after fighting a war.

He added that is was his job as commander in chief to “make sure that that child is being taken care of.”

I can understand his grief and concern for American soldiers. But mawkishness is not exactly a good basis for policy. And this exchange may well force him – or the next president – to write more such letters.

And as usual, Obama suggested that criticism directed his way for actions he has taken is political.

I’m never surprised by controversies that are whipped up in Washington. That’s par for the course . . . .

I think it was important for people to understand that this is not some abstraction, this is not a political football

We have a basic principle: we do not leave anybody wearing the American uniform behind.

Not physically, but his mind is always wandering, leaving him wondering where he is.

Yep, deiusion does cause people to mentally wander. And my goodness, their 'wanderings' does give them strange thoughts, in effect making them say, and do, bizarre things.

Jetboy you have it right. An AMERICAN SERVICE MAN was in captivity. We have an obligation, no a commitment to bring him back to the USA. To do less is criminal. The President should be complemented for retriving him.

Don't confuse the two incidents. One was a Serviceman in a war zone who was a prisoner. The other is an individual who violated Mexican law by having weapons in his possession. Both are serious but not connected.

The latest excuse for stupiodity is he Taliban threatened to kill the Sgt if the swap failed. Why would they kill one of their own? I thought he was sick? One thing about Obama. He is an incompetent idiot and acts like an incompetent idiot.

I hope he is charged with treason , and that is what he did when he joined the Taliban. We were worried about one soldier, who was a turn coat, and we stood by and let 4 Loyal Americans die in Bengazi? Get your head out of your ass and look at what is happening!!! If you really believe what you wrote I question your intelligence to vote!!

Many whom post here have no clue about what you are sworn in when you decide to become a active duty member of the United States. The "policy" for some several decades has always been, if you are a member of any of the Armed Forces of the United States of America, there will NOT be any ransom paid for your release if held captive, by the United States of America. Further a policy of No Negotiations with terrorist that kidnap Service Men or Women.

"Leave no man behind"....from what factors have surfaced, this "kidnapped victim" was not "left behind", yet rather decided to GO behind. I seriously doubt any reports made to the media for the so called reasons of all the exchange of top terrorist for this one defector. If any of the terrorist really wanted to kill this "kidnapped victim", they would have already done so...they already had 5 years to do it...and decided to not kill him.. So really what is the truth here?

As rotten and sick and twisted as Obama really is, one concern I have and everyone else that can see into this pile of cat vomit named Obama should be looking at...he may not want to leave office when his term is up.....all he has to do is manipulate a way of saying "issued marshall law"....suspended all courts and ha beaus corpus, and to use "executive power" to suspend the actually US Constitution until further notice based upon "National Security Reasons" he himself manufactured to take place to begin with. There is already some evidence he has this planned already.....why else would there have been advertisement on the US Army Recruiter website that they are looking for "internment camp specialist", and the buying of billions of ammunition and weapons?......
