Written by Gordon Ross--former Coos County commissioner ----Recently the Widow Yoakum was attacked by her pig. She kicked it and it bit her on the foot, which required stitches. She determined to get rid of the pig, but being of good pioneer stock, she couldn't kill the pig until its feed was all gone. After the space of about three weeks, when the feed had all been consumed, the pig was killed. I asked if they were going to smoke it or salt it down. "Heavens! neither", she said. "That pig was a pet. We just buried it."
