I have my faith community praying for a return to good health, and it suddenly occurred to me today that was wrong
The body does not matter. Yes to me it does, of course, but all the prayers should be for me to keep my eyes fixed on Christ. That is my health. My only health. Sure, having my heart healed through prayer would be greatly appreciated and may incite others to faith at the miracle. Yet I must now be like the oil and virgins. Or a Boy Scout: always prepared, over anything else. Miracles, I have come to see, are mostly a worldly distraction. It appears selfish and crass. God will find use of them as needed as he sees fit, but we do not need to pray for them. Stay in the race. "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." That should be, in my eyes, our only prayer for those who are in failing health or good health, to finish the race. Nothing else is important, nothing.
