Besides the obvious choice, Jesus, who is the person you admire most throughout history? Please explain why.

For me it is an easy choice: Helen Keller. Blind and deaf at the age of one and a half from an unknown disease, with the help of Anne Sullivan, her teacher and friend for over fifty years, she incredibly managed to overcome her handicaps. This is beyond the beyond to me. I cannot comprehend how. Utterly remarkable! I see and hear yet did not nearly manage her success in life. Such a great inspiration for all who struggle with any handicaps. Her example probably helped thousands and thousands to live better lives.

Some of you probably expected me to say Caligula.

John Locke comes to mind first.

If you have to ask why, you need to read his 'Two Treatises on Government' (pub. 1690).

I admire Locke only from several quotes. He seems an excellent choice.

An excellent choice. My choice is the Paul who went from being an evil hatefiled sinner as Saul to being one of Jesus's disciples .

Wow, I should have thought of that. Duh! Great choice. Okay, what about outside the Apostles, who would you pick? Oh, and all the OT figures.

How about William Tyndale. There are so many admirable people to choose from.

Good topic. I’d like to see what people have to say.

That name struck a bell but had to look him up to know. Yes, he did much to advance Protestantism at a dangerous time in the Church. And more. Good choice as far as I can tell.

I can not help but think of an unknown and un-named man who changed the development of the human species by sharing with us all the special gift that God offered as a friend and guide. That is the man who first invited a dog to share his dwelling and his food. That man started a bond between species that has lasted for thousands of years, making the dog happy and making the man, all men, better and wiser people, which was God's desire when He introduced His two special species to each other.

Wow, npp, that is great. Yes, absolutely. Brilliant! No accolades for his actions can possibly do him justice. All the love and healing and fun and tenderness millions and millions have found in that companion and friend is without counting. But I know his name: it is Pshfjt-ug-gru, Cro-magnum for " the greatest giver of comfort and joy to all." A rough translation. He was a shepherd.

Thank you for the compliment
By the way, I am SWMBO, She WhoMust Be Obeyed. NPP is still in bed this morning. His lung infection is better (actually the infection is worse, and NPP is healing) but he is still tired and slow to get moving in the morning. Fortunately his heart problem is no worse, so it looks like he will make it for a while longer.

Thank you. This choice and the responses tells me a lot about people, as individuals and groups and their connections to each other and other of God's creatures. Since NPP and I work with abused children, and have always used dogs as part of the therapy, the human dog connection has been vitally important to us and the boys we work with. Hopefully there are a lot of dog lovers on OPP who really understand the healing power of this amazing creation from God.

Yes, NPP is now up, had his breakfast and is outside in the 2 acres fenced off for the dogs, and he is playing with the new puppy plus the Staffordshire Bull terrier (Spike) and the Welsh Terrier (Chaos) The puppy is way too energetic for the two old Cane Corsos, but maybe Spike can work off a little of the extra energy of the puppy.

I will do that. He is a tough old bird. Two years ago he had a double bypass the second week in October, died on the table twice but is so stubborn that he insisted on going to the Halloween party two weeks after he got home. and with his warped sense of humor, he went, in his wheel chair as the grim reeper, with both Corsos going as ghost dogs, they were pulling his wheelchair. In case you haven't figured it out yet, we both have warped senses of humor, drives a lot of people nuts, which makes it well worth it.
