If there was an earthquake in Washington DC and President Obama was taking a dump you would blame him for the earthquake. If 'W' invaded Sweden in response to an EQ attack, you would make every attempt to prove that Sweden was run by EQ sympathizers and Muslims or somehow blame President Obama when he became President. Just saying!
The purpose of this topic is to compare the investigative response to events leading up to the Iraq war including 9/11 where ~ 3000 lives were lost and Iraq where ~ 4000 American soldiers died with the investigations currently underway for Benghazi and the deaths of four Americans including the Ambassador. Oldroy has accepted the challenge to prove that republican response to all these items was responsible attempts to get to the cause of these difficulties. I intend to prove that the republican response to Benghazi is totally irresponsible and politically motivated and disrespectful to the US diplomatic service.

It's necessary to remind Rs constantly that chemical weapons or their precursors were supplied to Hussein and he was shown how to use them by the administration of Reagan/Rumppsfeld/Cheney. He used them all up against Iranians and Kurds. This is known because Hussein did not use CW against the Israelis in his Scud missile attacks and against NATO in the Kuwait War.
The problem is that the current situation in Iraq may actually be worse than Hussein's operation. And it was basically set up by Bushies. Even Maliki was hand selected by Bushies and he turned around and bit it. Maliki is now establishing himself as a dictator being semi-controlled by Iran.
Then you need to keep in mind that Iraq, Syria, Libya, Egypt, Parts of Lebanon, Yemen, Iran?, were Russian ally's if not satellites. Saudi Arabia, Bahrain,Jordan, Kuwait, and the Emirates were our reluctant allies.
Bush1 reclaimed Kuwait by a brilliant NATO attack conducted by Schwarzkopf/Powell. But they left Hussein in partitioned control probably insisted on by Saudi's Because of Religious reasons.
Clinton didn't do much to alleviate any situation complaining about black market oil sales to supposedly provide medications but actually not so. He even attacked a warehouse that was empty w missiles that probably cost more than the sheds they hit.
Then came 9/11 and the intelligence deficient Bush2. We now know that he and Cheney were planning to attack Iraq as soon as a potential reason could be found and accepted by Americans and congress.
All for Iraq's oil. Cheneys secret meetings w Oil Company's must have outlined several items including mega mergers and Iraq Oil because bush declared the meetings secret under Executive Privilege. Americans deserve to see what was discussed.
Their first opportunity to strut our military prowess ,however, was to invade Afghanistan. This after the Northern Alliance had been successful in driving out the Taliban w our B-52 bomber support and spotters on the ground. 35000 of our best soldiers were deployed rapidly to Afghanistan.
No mission for them was reported.
Cheney now says it was to get B.Laden. What? He didn't even know if he was on the continent, pure and simple. It was a military and administration EGO trip. You know, 'W' the warrior president like his dad.This because the Russians had left with their tail between their legs and our people wanted to show how much superior we were to them, militarily. And they screwed the pooch here too. Karzai? Another Bushie selection that just happens to be Schitzo as well.
Comment, the only reason to legitimately stay in Afghanistan. now is to protect the modernized women from Religious fanatics, attacks, and political reversion, if possible. What have we gained in both war efforts-nothing. At great cost both in human life and treasure. In Iraq, several comments have come up relative to civilian lives lost. US lives lost to seriously injured was ~ 1/7. So, Iraqis reported losses were 150,000 dead. Seriously Injured was probably greater than 1,050,000. Iraq had seriously depleted medical supplies and facilities. So, how many survived injuries, if any, or died later. Unknown or unasked. Iraq has only a 23 million population,so, virtually every family was impacted. Great new freedom,George and Dicky. Does anybody still wonder why Bushie had shoes thrown at him.
Of course, no oil for us.

Of course, an intermediate conclusion could be available to use in the impeachment trial of Temporary President Barack Hussein Obama. Did I say he was black? Well, he is! Some of Gowdy's supporters in South Carolina even think he paid for the attack on the consulate as well as believing he still was born in Kenya. Of course, the house repuglicans won't put this on their agenda until they control congress and the Presidency, but their goal is to:

1. Why no follow up to determining if there was an impact of the video as the Senate reported! Who paid and developed the video? Where were Libyans? How were reporters allowed to violate the crime scene?
2. What role did Romney's Foot in Mouth speeches on Cairo and Libya on 9/11&12 have as a distraction?
3. Should Assa's committee be disbanded for lack of credability?
4. Where are house reports? Camp,Rogers, and Assa's? Other reports completed >6 months ago?
5. What is status of FBI report? Is Interim report possible?
6. Will Rs return campaign funds collected at expense of dead Americans?

You make some valid points. Maybe the point of Benghazi is to distract us from forgetting all that mess especially with $ 6 Trillion by 2020 and keep rising until 2050. It makes me think about the policy change of sanctions, NATO exercises, smart bombs and drones may be a more practical approach for years to come.

No Government policy is ever adopted - unless some friend, family member, or former foe - can make a bundle. Does anyone know the budget for the totally useless and redundant Department of Homeland Security? I wonder how many Bush/Cheney comrades have gotten even richer from THAT bullshit.

I don't have a problem with the hearing especially if there is a recognition of practical improvements to some way, when state dept diplomats abroad ask for more security and if it isn't in the congressional budget then defense oversight committee should then find the money from Pentagon budget if at least to send a tank, gunner or assess the safe room and upgrade communications.

The situation in Iraq is truly worrisome, as militants threaten to tear the country asunder and disrupt the fragile, short-lived period absent all-out war there.
We have strategic interests in preventing Iraq from unraveling, not least of which is that we dont need the country to become a haven for terrorists, particularly those who might see America as a target.
And of course, there is the uneasy subject of oil: Volatility in the region has already sent global oil prices soaring. On Wednesday, militants were said to have taken control of Iraqs largest oil refinery.
We have to tread carefully here. There are no saints to be seen in this situation. Everyones hands are bloody. And, we dont want to again get mired in a conflict in a country from which we have only recently extricated ourselves.
As we weigh our response, one of the last people who should say anything on the subject is a man who is partly responsible for the problem.
But former Vice President Dick Cheney, who was in the administration that deceived us into a nine-year war in Iraq, just cant seem to keep his peace.
In an Op-Ed published with his daughter, Liz, in The Wall Street Journal on Tuesday, the Cheneys write:
Rarely has a U.S. president been so wrong about so much at the expense of so many.
This, from the man who helped lead us into this trumped-up war, searching for nonexistent weapons of mass destruction, a war in which some 4,500 members of the American military were killed, many thousands more injured, and that is running a tab of trillions of dollars.
During the lead-up to the war, Mr. Cheney said to Tim Russert: I really do believe that we will be greeted as liberators. Nothing could have been further from the truth.
Even if it were indeed rare to be so wrong, as Mr. Cheney puts it, he was vice president in an administration that was much more tragically wrong. His whole legacy is wrapped in wrong.
At one point in the article, the Cheneys state:
Iraq is at risk of falling to a radical Islamic terror group and Mr. Obama is talking climate change. Terrorists take control of more territory and resources than ever before in history, and he goes golfing.
Mr. Cheney must think that we have all forgotten the scene from Fahrenheit 9/11, Michael Moores 2004 documentary, in which President George W. Bush, brandishing a club on a golf course, looks into the camera and says,
I call upon all nations to do everything they can to stop these terrorist killers. Thank you.
That is quickly followed by, Now, watch this drive, and a shot of Bush swinging at the ball.
In fact, on one of the rare occasions that Mr. Cheney was actually right, in 1994, he warned about the problems that would be created by deposing Saddam Hussein:
Once you got to Iraq and took it over, and took down Saddam Husseins government, then what are you going to put in its place? Thats a very volatile part of the world, and if you take down the central government of Iraq you can easily end up seeing pieces of Iraq fly off. Part of it the Syrians would like to have to the west. Part of eastern Iraq, the Iranians would like to claim, fought over for eight years. In the north youve got the Kurds, and if the Kurds spin loose and join with the Kurds in Turkey, then you threaten the territorial integrity of Turkey. Its a quagmire.

That was quite prescient. And yet, the Bush administration pushed us into the Iraq war anyway, and the quagmire we now confront.
Thats why its so galling to read Mr. Cheney chastising this administration for its handling of the disaster that Mr. Cheney himself foresaw, but ignored.
I know that we as Americans have short attention spans, but most of us dont suffer from amnesia. The Bush administration created this mess, and the Obama administration now has to clean it up.
The Cheneys wrote: This president is willfully blind to the impact of his policies, Mr. Cheney seemingly oblivious to the irony.
George W. Bush may well have been a disaster of a president (in a 2010 Siena College Research Institute survey, 238 presidential scholars ranked Bush among the five worst ever presidents in American history), but at least he has the dignity and grace or shame and humility to recede from public life with his family and his painting, and not chide and meddle with the current administration as it tries to right his wrong.
Mr. Cheney, meanwhile, is still trying to bend history toward an exoneration of his guilt and an expunging of his record. But history, on this, is stiff, and his record is written in blood.
