Luke chapter 24

Verse 1

Jesus was buried before nightfall Wednesday, because of the high sabbath they didn’t have time to prepare His body for burial. The plan was to prepare the body early Sunday morning. This won’t be necessary.

Verse 2 - 9

How do we know Christ rose from the dead? It’s been 2,000 years and we are still talking about it.

Verse 10 - 12

Christ told them at least three times that He would rise from the dead. Women tell the disciples Jesus is not in the tomb, they are not believed. Peter goes to the tomb himself. He wonders what is going on.

Verse 13

Emmaus means warm bath.Sixty furlongs is about seven miles.

Verse 14 - 16

The perceptions in our mind is in the hands of the supernatural.

Verse 17 - 27

Jesus had told them at least three times during His ministry that He would die and come back. Women told them He was not in the tomb, Peter goes to the tomb and sees He is not there.The followers of Christ were going to take a bath. According to John 21:3, Peter wanted to go back to fishing. Jesus was talking with them , they still didn’t get it/

Verse 28 - 31
They are approaching Emmanus. Jesus acts like He will keep going, the followers of Christ ask them to abide with them. These weren’t disciples. They realize He is Jesus when He breaks bread.

Verse 32

Just teach God’s word. God’s sheep will hear God’s voice.

Verse 33 - 35

The followers of Christ, go to Jerusalem and inform the disciples of everything that happened to them

Verse 36 -43

Jesus appears before them. He shows them His hands and feet and asks for something to eat.

Verse 44

Why are the prophets being ignored? You will not know God unless you read the prophets

Verse 45 - 48

A follower of Christ can make scripture come alive. If you can’t, study and live until you can. Christian development is not taught. We are taught to admit we are sinners. Without being told what is and is not a sin.

Verse 49

This leads to Acts, also written by Luke. Im Matthew and Mark, Jesus gives the Great Commission. He says “follow me” 17 times.

Verse 50 - 53

After Jesus rose, He only appeared to believers. He appeared to 500 people.
