Tommy O’Shaughnessy goes into the confessional in his church in Dublin and when the priest slides open the window he says,
“Bless me Father, for I have sinned. I have been with a bad woman.”

The priest asks, “Does that be you Tommy O’Shaughnessy?” “Yes, ‘tis Father.” The priest continues, “Well, was it Bridget O’Hara that you committed these sinful acts with?” Tommy replies, “Father, ‘twouldn’t be proper for me to tell on the poor woman.”

The priest then asks, “Then was it Peggy O’Rourke?” Tommy again tells the priest that he couldn’t tell on her. The priest continues asking if it was Patsy McNamara or Jenny Donahue or Daisy McCarthy. Each time Tommy tells the priest that he wouldn’t tell of the girl.

Finally the priest says, “Aye, ye’ve always been a steadfast lad there Tommy and I’ve always admired that in ye. But ye’ve sinned. Now for your penance say five Our Fathers and ten Hail Mary’s and don’t ye be taking up with any sinful women again. De ye hear me, Tommy?” Tommy replies, “Yes, Father.”

So Tommy goes out into the pew, kneels down and his friend Sean slides over and asks, “What’d you get?” He says “Five good leads.”
