Hosea chapter 12

Verse 1 and 2

Hosea predicts Israel losing its homeland more than any other book. Israel got to the point that they formed a confederacy with Syria against Judah. Israel had crossed the line. God looked at Israel and Judah as brother nations. When Israel split into Israel and Judah, Israel immediately started worshipping idols. Judah followed God when he king followed God.

Verse 3 - 6

According to Genesis 25:26, Jacob grabbed Esau’s heel. When Jacob wrestled the angel, he was crying when he refused to give up. Jacob’s name would be changed to Israel. God doesn’t die. He is the God of Abraham, Issac, and Jacob. He is my mother’s God, He is my God. He is my children’s God.

Verse 7 and 8

Israel had become as wicked as Sodom and Gomorrah..Israel learned the wrong lesson from prosperity. It produces negative consequences when you go against God’s word.

Verse 9 and 10

God will never abandon the children of Jacob. One day they will all return to the Middle East. As long as Israel obeyed a prophet of God they had success. Listening to false prophets accomplishes nothing. A prophet of God teaches the bible chapter by chapter and verse by verse

Verse 11

Gilgal and Gilead are both cities of idolatry..Between the old and new testaments, idolatry got replaced by religion.

Verse 12 and 13

Before Jacob had any children, he had a relationship with God. God had watched Israel go from obeying to serving idols. As long as Israel obeyed a prophet of God, they prospered. When Joshua died, Israel followed their desires. Read the first chapter of Judges.

Verse 14

We should repent and turn around before we destroy ourselves.
