Our neighbors raise dairy goats (Nigerian Dwarfs) and most of them kid in the spring, having 2 0r 3 each. So for a while I will be running back and forth helping pull kids that are stuck coming out (more common when they come out feet first) giving antibiotics, or things that help increase milk production, banding the extra male kids to castrate them . That way they make great 4H projects for little children. The fall kids are doing well and the 1 1/4 pound kid actually survived, needed fluids for a while and lots of special treatment but the extra handling made him a great 4H project, tame as a dog.Pete is here for a while because he likes to help, and he is helping teach the boy who has the last fall whether learn tricks. There is nothing like one hurting boy learn from a young man who has been there and is getting better. To bad they have to deal with the transgender B*S and now the push toward lowering or removing the age of consent for adults to have sex with kids. I knew that as we started welcoming fundamentalist Muslims and normalizing transgender lies the slippery slope would become a waterfall.
Well, the neighbors just called and three does decided to kid at the same time, so will run over there to help. NPP won't come with me, he is busy laying out the 2 acre garden and deciding what to plant. He can't do much of the physical labor but is great at supervising.

You are kidding, right

I question, between the two of you, who supervises who the most.

Those goats are really cute. I love goats but am glad they are the neighbors. I can help out but do not have to shovel the goat pens. My father was a country vet, years ago. He believed that girls could do the same work as boys so my brother and I learned how to treat livestock and dogs from him, starting when we were little. I still remember holding calves, lambs or kids and bottle feeding them. Learned how to give shots early, and even how to stitch up cuts on animals. That was a long time ago (I am now 75) and still help out next door here. This is one of those strange areas where people help each other. We get goats milk from the neighbors we make bread and give some to them. NPP and the neighbor brew beer together, as they are getting ready to do now. We have helped several people train their dogs, in addition to the classes I taught for years. One other neighbor tills our 2 acre garden and helps with planting and harvesting and all three families share the produce, plus delivering it to those who are no longer able to provide for themselves. Many of us drive people to the store and sometimes help them cook their meals. However, there are a number of people around here that I would only hel by driving them to the drug rehab center anytime they asked. Unfortunately they don't ask, they just try to steal from everyone when ever they can. Two 140 pound Mastiffs stop that around here. Here help is available but thieves are not welcome

Wow, you are quite the impressive youngish lady..

i think the country should have a lot more of these areas where people help each other... Kudos..

My wife has become a go-to for all sorts of people near us, and the nearest on the road have plowed our snow all winter.. that leaves me in a dilemma.. he will not accept payment.. we did give them a gift certificate to a new and fine restaurant.. but that is all.

My little girl has for years had more biz then she can handle but not enough to expand and hire help.

She sold both milk and meat to the twin city immigrant market then started baking eastern European stuff. Some is quite good..

i know from reading your post that you are very involved and see from your post that is an understatement.

even having countless animals, I have never gotten the skills to treat them well. shots and cutting the males are about all..

Have a fine day..

So do what we do around here, bake him some bread, or make him a big container of spaghettisauce, or, if you are up to it, make a birthday cake for him, his wife or one of the children. I wouldn't suggest a six pac of home made beer or wine, you have to know that he does not have a drinking problem or not want to be around anyone who drinks. NPP loves making beer and wine but seldom drinks more than a half glass of either. And with his medications and heart problems HE BETTER NOT!! I am the BOSS and he knows it.

MMMM,,, home made beer... never have tried that, but he and I have shared a brew or two on a hot summer day..

Made wine back in the day.. mine never turned out well but my side kick made all sorts of good stuff...

Dandelion, any berry able to grow up here and even some wild grape stuff that was very good..

actually potato wine was a thing he also did well.

But my snow plower will be reimbursed well, I will attend to that..

Thank you. There are times when the vitriol on each side gets out of hand, and we all need a break and a smile or two.

Thank you. Having a veterinarian for a father helped a lot and one of my closest friends for 50 years is a top breeder of Welsh Terriers. From her I learned a lot about dogs, and more about people. Our Welsh terrier came from her and she was kind enough to groom him for shows and help him get his championship. However, our dogs are pets, and obedience and rally dogs, but their main duty is as therapy dogs as we work with boys who have been seriously abused. The therapy that the dogs provide makes them worth their weight in gold. Often times we have just sat back and watched the dogs as they respond to the hugs and tears of damaged kids who tell the dogs about things they couldn't face telling people. Years ago one of our boys said of the man who molested and beat him that "he tore a hole in my soul and all the happiness leaked out" All we can do is help the boy heal the hole, which will never fully go away. I really believe that God gave us dogs to help us all understand a small example of HIS love.
