The name of the company is something chosen to make you feel good about the product. For all you know the ingredients came from China, or the source is material gathered from the back of the slaughterhouse. I hate to tell you, but the restrictions on animal food processing are often carelessly applied.

Purina ProPlan has had only one recall in the last 5 years, and that was for too much vitamin B which is one reason we stick with that brand, plus the fact that most of the "dog people" who breed, show and train dogs use it.

Purina ProPlan is the higher grade line of food, designed for breeders and professional trainers. They have one type for large breed puppies, one for small breed puppies, one, called Bright Mind, for senior dogs, several choices for most dogs, including Sensitive Stomach for dogs prone to loose stools. Since the Mastiffs are in that category we use it for all of our adult dogs. The Welsh Terrier and the Stafford Shire Bull terrier do well on it too. AVOID the grain free, no matter what brand, too many dogs have problems when put on it, including infertility, serious kidney problems, and several kinds of cancer.

I didn't know that about grain free. I have used a few highly regarded brands but didn't like how my dogs were - 'off' is the best way to put it. I think you know what I mean. Now my only grain free is raw.
