Genesis chapter 12

Verse 1 - 5

When God first spoke to Abram, Terah was still alive. Ur was near Babylon, while Haran was in Turkey. To get to the land of Canaan from Babylon would be shorter going straight East. But between the two nations is desert and there is no water. The most convenient route is along the Euphrates to Turkey and then south to Canaan God still blesses those who bless His children and curses those who curse His children. Nahor and his wife and children stayed in Haran. While Abram, his wife and nephew went south, to the land of the Canaanites.

Verse 6 - 9

These lands are south of Haran where present day Israel is located. Abram would continue south because there is a famine in the land.

Verse 10 - 13

It is better to be proactive than reactive. If you fail to plan, you plan to fail. It is better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it. Always have a plan B.

Verse 14 - 20

Abram became wealthy soon after covenanting with God. But wealth can deceive you. God is in control. Abram goes back to Canaan
