Venezuelans on Socialism

Venezuelan socialism is a contemporary example of socialism's dysfunction, and the state of the country is worse than you can imagine. Where millions of people are starving to death and economic policy has failed to live up to the hype, Venezuelans are fleeing in the millions into neighboring countries and destinations worldwide. Anything to get away.

"You do not ever want anyone even close to socialism to come to this country."

By the way, here's the new 2020 Democratic Party Election Platform:

Venezuelan socialism is a contemporary example of ... (show quote)

Venezuela is a de facto dictatorship, no one is advocating for emulating their system here. You need to look at democratic nations with mixed economies like those in Scandinavia. To point out Venezuela as an example is the same as pointing out Somalia as the perfect example of what happens when you have no gun control, little to no government services and pure capitalism.

I did that, yesterday, right here on another thread.

Capitalism? Gun control? Why are you picking on capitalism and gun control? The issues in Somalia are more than just merely religion and tribe, and the availability of firearms and sufficient ammunition. Since Somali independence in 1960, Somalia has been a victim of mismanagement, poor governance, lack of leadership and dictatorship from day one. The effects of no gun control, little to no government services (seriously?) and pure capitalism are way down the list of Somali woes.

Unnecessary regional interference from Ethiopia, Eritrea, Kenya, and external interference by the US and Europe have played a major role in the instability and insecurity seen today in Somalia. To achieve peace in Somalia, interference by outside parties, and especially Ethiopia, in funding of militias and fomenting tribal divisions needs to end.

The problem in Venezuela which, by the way, is one of the most oil-rich countries in the world, is not outside interference in their political or social institutions, it's not their peoples' inability to exploit the bounty that is their natural resources, but socialism, plain and simple. Before Caesar Chavez came on the scene, Venezuela was rich and successful, post-Chavez, they're starving and dying at phenomenal rates. The only modification is socialism, and it's a cancer to everything it touches.
